Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
April 13th: Declared
Newmarket 5f Mf
  • Cost middling price at Doncaster St Leger sales.
  • First season sire made 6f May debut at 2yo and superior 6-7f runner. Made solid impression at the sales and yearlings sold well.
  • B2yoR rated 32 of his yearlings and they were a solid group if lacking real stars.
  • Sire has had four runners so far which have placed at low level at best including tow which sold for more than this one.
  • The dam was a very poor runner over sprint distances at 2yo and showed best form over 8f on the AW winning a seller at 3yo. She has produced one long distance winner.
  • Trainer has not targeted FTO wins in recent seasons and early debuts can often be inexperienced. Only the very best runners compete well on debut. He has had one inexperienced debut run in 2005.
  • The trainer has had a runner in the race in the last three seasons. In 2002 the 7f Listed race winner Sister Bluebird finished last on debut. The moderate placer Innstyle was 3rd in 2003 and he had the winner on debut in 2004. In line with only his best runners winning on debut she was useful+ and won the Supersprint.
  • In summary a pedigree of a minor sprint winner and doubts about what the dam can contribute. Sire has made a slow start with his runners so far. The trainer's debut runs are only competitive to win if they are useful+ and naturally professional if this early in the season. Unlikely to be useful+ on profile but ought to be a winner later but, on balance, will need the run to develop from. However, watch for strong support. Profile [62]
  • April 13th: Newmarket
    Post Race
  • Continued here trainer's record of introducing unusually competent and competitive debut runners at this meeting. His debut runs are rarely competitive unless the 2yo is at least useful+ and probably capable of competing in Group races.
  • He seems to have chosen his most natural 'speed' 2yos in the last two seasons for this meeting. He won this race with the useful+ Siena Gold and Abbielou (for the same owner) put up a solid debut here without suggesting she is as good as Siena Gold. She broke second best and set the pace on the far side for more than 3 furlong and kept on for third. A solid debut of the type the colt Alpaga Le Jomage made for the trainer at the 2004 meeting. Likely to be a 75+ maiden winner on this debut effort but not up to Siena Gold's standard. Estimate [66]
  • April 23rd: Leicester
    5f Maiden
  • Made a good debut by trainer standards looking professional and rating slightly above expectations. Trainer's runner usually show solid improvement so long as they do not run too quickly STO and this one has an acceptable 10 day break.  Profile [74]
  • April 23rd: Leicester
    Post Race
  • Paddock rated 74. A surprise given her performance on debut and on first sight a question mark over the quality of her Newmarket third arose. Notably small and compact. Well built and deep, also strong behind. However, weaker in front and lacking range to use her strength. A 'now' filly that should need a fast ground 5f to show her best. Her lack of range & reach means she's relying on strength and leg speed (rather than length of stride) to show her best and may not stay a 'stiff' 5f. Probably limited to 70-74 rating and need faster conditions to show it.
  • A surprise with how small she is and immediately raised questions over the strength of the Newmarket race she lead and finished 3rd in. Well build but compact and lacking range. Looked like a fast ground 5f sprinter and limited by her size.
  • With no real support for others she shortened from 11/10 to 5/6f. Unlike Newmarket she was settled tracking the leaders towards the centre of the track. As the race quickened after halfway she showed little progress and just plugged on.
  • Inclined to the view that her size and lack of range means that she will need faster going and will be better being allowed to use her pace early in the race to set a target for others to chase. This race on easier and with her being ridden to try to 'quicken' after halfway wasn't in her best interests.
  • In summary she underperformed against expectations because - a) the debut run at Newmarket looks over-rated; b) she's rather small and compact; c) she needs a faster surface to use her strength and leg speed.
  • Also worth noting that her trainer has a poor record with STO runs of 7 days or less. She was running 10 days after debut which seemed 'ok' but possibly not. Each season the trainer struggles to win maidens with a range of runners who have shown glimpses of good form in good races. Estimate [47]
  • May 16th: Windsor
    5f Maiden Fillies'
  • Given a break since her disappointing second run. That form looks better in light of the good follow-up runs by the 1st, 4th & 5th.
  • Blinkered first time and poorly drawn in 2 of 16. Trainer runs two and neither have a usual jockey for the stable.
  • Profile [70]
  • May 20th: Haydock
    5f Auction
  • Given an aggressive ride at Windsor 4 days ago and got across to the stands' rail by the end of the first furlong and set a good pace which had five fillies clear of the bunch from early on and these filled the first 5 places. A length clear at halfway she was headed 1F out and plugged on ok given the pacemaking for a close up fourth.  Estimate [69]
  • Runs only 4 days after Windsor and trainer can struggle to get maiden wins with this type. Blinkered again in a good choice of race since she is bottom weight in this Auction.  Profile [69 + 9 =78]
  • June 13th: Warwick
    5f Maiden Fillies
  • 7/2 at Haydock with a 3lb apprentice. Raced on the far side of a large group and led setting a good pace. The far side runners in the race faded as a group and she faded notably in the last furlong. Estimate [44]
  • Given a break after running too freely last time and fading after only a 4 day interval. Had previously run poorly on softer ground. On balance she looks a short runner although with some early pace. In each of her four races she has failed to finish the race off well. Unlikely to show much improvement but should be back to her better form level after the break.  Profile [67]
