Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
June 16th: Newbury
6f Maiden c&g
  • Owner bred and the trainer raced the previous foal for the same owner.
  • First season sire made good impression at sales and yearlings sold well. He won over 7f at 2yo but reverted to a top class sprinter at 3yo.
  • His early runners over 5f have competed just averagely well with places but no wins. He has had two recent wins with debut runners over 6f and one STO.
  • Dam quite well related to useful sprinters and improved in the September of her 2yo career to win 8-10TO after earlier places. Her first foal was a small type and showed just 70+ rated placed 5f form.
  • Trainer used to be assistant to R Hannon and is developing his own style since he started in 2001. He tends not to target strong debuts except with particular runners. These tend to lead to shorter SPs (8/1 or less compared to 10/1+ normally).
  • He has had five poor to moderate debuts in 2005 and has not really got going with the 2yos. The few STO runs have not shown improvement.
  • His runner in this race has finished last in 2003-4. He runs three on debut this year with G Baker on this one, D Sweeney on El Hogar & A McCarthy on Vehari.
  • In summary a solid 2yo pedigree that could well produce an average+ 2yo. In the context of his trainer's form so far a prominent debut would be a good sign. Profile [59]
  • July 4th: Windsor
    6f Maiden
  • 16/1 joint 7th favourite at Newbury in a moderate to average maiden. Within a length of the leader after 1f and pressing the pacemaker by half a length at halfway. Outpaced as the front three pulled away 2f out and faded quite badly to 9th. Estimate [26]
  • Poor form on debut and faded off just an average pace. Runners from that race have confirmed it as below average form - the 2nd beatn in a similar Chepstow maiden NTO, the 4th beaten in a moderate Brighton Auction and the 5th well beaten in a moderate & muddling Sandown maiden. The 3rd from the race (Art Market) is also in this race.
  • Trainer's 2yos have started to show better form with a good debut by a J. C. Smith owner bred and a win (5TO) for a moderate filly.  Reasonable draw in 8 of 16 if he shows the same prominent run style. Profile [58]
