June 3rd: Haydock 6f Maiden	Did not reach his reserve price at the Goffs sales. Good, but much derided sire (for getting 'morning glories'), has an average record with British raced 2yos. Wins tend to come from mid season onwards over 7f+. He had a 6f debut 6 days ago who ran midfield looking to lack some pace after missing the break. Dam has a quite stout pedigree and won over 10f at 3yo. Fourth runner of the season for her trainer in four days. This is an early start and he usually starts his 2yos in a batch in July. He had a group of June debuts in 2003 which were average winner types. The earliest runners in each season will include most of the winners. He assesses his 2yos at home before they run and will have a plan with most of them depending upon the ability they have. He does not not target strong debuts and gets occasional winners with better types that can rate 70+ FTO usually in weaker races. A shorter SP (less than 3/1) has been significant in the last two seasons. His first debut was a good second in a moderate fillies' race at Redcar travelling well but got tired in the last furlong. The second was backed at Wolverhampton but showed inexperience and finally got going to finish quite well to take second behind a winner who had to previous runs. The third was unsupported in a weak Brighton race (tautology) but plugged on for second behind a limited filly who was odds-on favourite. In summary a 7f+ pedigree and likely to need his debut. Sales price suggests he's not superior and he would need to be good to win this on debut. This is not the type of race the trainer would normally target for a rare FTO win (Wolverhampton or Scottish course primarily). Profile [57]
