Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
April 6th: Declared for
Nottingham 5f Maiden
  • Retained for cheap price at cheaper Doncaster sales.
  • First runner for first season sire who himself only cost 2.8k gns at the sales. He has an 'all speed' pedigree and was a tough sprint 2yo although below pattern race class. He developed over a long career to win a Group 2 6f sprint at 6yo.
  • However he has a moderate pedigree and none of his siblings had rated over 70 and his latest half-brother sold for 1.5k gns at the 2004 sales.
  • B2yoR reviewed three of his 2yos at the sales that sold for more than this one and they looked limited early sprinters.
  • Dam was a poor 10f seller winner. She has produced low quality runners with 5 previous foals.
  • The trainer regularly uses this race or its equivalent to run his best 2yo in. However, he has made a fast start to 2005 and has already had 5 debut winners and has presumably shown us his best 2yos.
  • However, the trainer's runners are clearly well ahead on readiness on debut to any other trainer's 2yos so far in 2005.
  • Trainer runs two in the race for the same owner-breeder and this is first string on jockeys.
  • In summary a poor pedigree promising a 60s sprinter at best. However, the form of the trainer and the readiness of his 2yos in 2005 suggest he may be able to give us his best on debut. Profile [64]
  • April 6th: Nottingham
    Post Race
  • Was steady at 3/1f and his trainer has his runners very ready in early season in 2005. Ran reasonably close to the pace in a race where the pacemakers finished towards the rear and did best of those closer to the pace. Was left in the lead briefly as the pacemakers stalled but only plugged on in a slow race. Was out-stayed by Ace Baby and picked up late by his second string stablemate Thomas Of Bathwick who had been in rear and never got into the race. Some promise but level of form was so low it is difficult to work up enthusiasm. Estimate [52]
  • April 23rd: Leicester
    5f Maiden
  • The form of the unplaced runners from the race he made his debut in has suggested that was a poor to moderate race.
  • The trainer has had his runners very ready on debut in 2005 and has only had two STO runs which have given mixed signals over how much improvement to expect. In summary expect ok improvement given that he may have run too close to the pace on debut but from a low base.  Profile [62]
  • April 23rd: Leicester
    Post Race
  • Fittest in the group by some way on his second run. Smaller and below average build compared to the group overall. Good mover. Disappointing here but ought to be able to rate mid-60s. Rated 67.
  • The trainer has had his 2yos readier than any trainer in 2005 and this runner much fitter than the others on his second outing. The form of his debut run looked poor and he did not improve here.

  • Steady at 9/2 2nd favourite in a market with no clues. Made a solid but usable pace to before 1 furlong from home and faded tamely from there (although slightly hampered). Inclined to the view that although he underperformed he's probably limited and will need a drop in grade to win. Estimate [42]
    May 6th: Lingfield
    5f Maiden
  • Ran poorly in a muddling race last time and a poor fade after making the pace. Did not stand out in that group and looked likely to be limited to mid-60s form.  Profile [64]
  • May 23rd: Windsor
    5f Novice
  • 12/1 at Lingfield and had no chance with a useful winner but produced a better effort. Tracked the winner by just over a length at halfway and was outpaced by him inside 2f out (as were the rest of the field. Plugged on to keep second. Estimate [64]
  • Trainer's later debuts in 2005 have not produced a winner and runners do not tend to show much improvement after STO unless for increased distance later in the season. Sticks at 5f and have probably seen what he is capable of.  Profile [65 + 7 = 72]
