Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
May 3rd: Bath
5f Maiden
  • Made solid price at the Doncaster St Leger sales. A reasonable increase from his sale price as a foal.
  • First season sire won over 5f in May as a 2yo and was a 6f Group 2 winner later in that season. Made below average impression at the sales.
  • Dam had a sprint pedigree but showed poor form up to 12f. She has produced one poor 2yo who sold much less well than this one.
  • Trainer has had his 2yos more forward than any other trainer in 2005 and has had 4 wins and 3 places with his debut runners to date. This is his third FTO run after a break of two weeks from those earlier batch of debuts. The latest debuts have been less competitive 2yo types.
  • In summary if he had been one of the trainer's earliest debuts you would think he was certain to be an average winner at least. The later debut raises the issue of whether he has shown less ability. However he is still likely to be competent and relatively forward FTO.  Profile [60]
  • May 16th: Bath
    5f Novice
  • Finished 7/1 at Bath on debut after drifting to 10/1 from 7/1. Tracked the leaders early and 4 lengths off the lead at halfway and faded to a poor 9th Estimate [20]. That was a very muddling race on soft ground and was the slowest 5f race at the course for some years. It also appeared to be draw affected with the centre of the course a possible advantage and he race towards the stands' side. He finished behind Safari Mischief who he meets again here.
  • The ground at Bath on his debut was notably soft and could be a possible excuse for the poor performance so not one to write off. However, the trainer tends to identify his better 2yos early in the seasons and that seems to have happened in 2005. All of the first 5 early debuts have won and gone on to compete well in better races. None of the later debuts has looked competitive to win. The trainer has said he had a 'runny nose' so that was why he made a later debut. Receives weight from the previous winners. Profile [63 + 2 = 65]
