Made a good price at the Doncaster St Leger sales and a notable increase
fromt he foal level. Also a good price in the context of the sire and dam's
records.
Third season sire has ok record with getting competitive minor 2yos and
the occasional one useful+ from limited opportunities. Can get 5f winners
but wins usual start from May onwards.
Sire's two runners in 2005 have included on minor 5f winner.
Dam just an average pedigree and won a claimer off 8-3 at 3yo rating in
the 40s. Her best foal has shown moderate to average placed form.
Good, reliable trainer targets a maiden win with 2yos in the first three
runs. The better types will then run in conditions+ races and a few in
nurseries.
He does not target strong debut runs and the FTO wins tend to come along
with the best 2yos. Consider in 2003 that 7 of his first 10 2yos runners
won on debut. This wasn't a 'plan' as such but a year when he had a lot
of good 2yos. Six of those 7 have rated over 90 in their careers.
The debut wins tend to come in the period May to June and are often in
the North or Midlands. This is related to the fact that his earliest debuts
each season are a mix of his best and most precocious 2yos, sprinkled with
a few duff ones (often owner breds). The best ones win on debut in this
period
His first five debuts in 2005 produced 2 wins, one place and two unplaced
(here at Windsor). The next five have produced one place and two solid
debuts.
None of the runners have won STO and most have looked solidly fit FTO suggesting
that if they don't show up well on debut there isn't much improvement.
In summary an interesting profile. The sales price suggests a better physical
type given the moderate pedigree. If he had been a good type then an earlier
debut would have been expected (trainer has reported that he was held up
in his training schedule by a bout of coughing). The trainer seems to start
lesser types at this course overall. Poor draw in 2 but likely to be fit
