Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
April 18th: Windsor
5f Maiden
  • Sold for lowish to middling price at Doncaster St Leger sales.
  • Reviewed at the sales and a reasonable size with a notably heavy build. He was compact and lacked athleticism. He was seen as being limited to a 60s rating at best and might be a 'heavy trundler'.
  • By good sire that has a solid (if unexciting) record with 2yos. 5f winners are rare and normally need help from the dam and the trainer's methods.
  • Dam has a mixed influences and her win over 8f is a fair reflection of that. She has produced two previous foals which did not run at 2yo.
  • Trainer has a poor to moderate record with 2yos and has produced 16 winners of 16 races from 115 2yos in the last 6 seasons and a low strike rate. This would not be good record with bargain basement 2yos but he has many more expensive types. [Compare his record to someone like JS Moore who does better and he is working with basement 2yos].
  • Debuts are usually uncompetitive and at long SPs. They have been more competent in recent seasons and tend to rate in the 40-60 range.
  • In summary a reasonable pedigree and had good build at the sales but did not convince with athleticism. Likely to be limited to 60s rating and below that on debut by trainer methods.  Profile [47]
  • April 18th: Windsor
    Post Race
  • 40/1 on debut for trainer with moderate record with 2yos. Remarkably heavy and mature for early season 2yo. Confirmed this by running above expectations by being prominent at halfway and making an effort 2 furlongs out before stalling in the last furlong. lacks some athleticism but ought to rate around 70 early season. Trainer has a moderate record in converting promise into 2yo wins.  Estimate [61]
  • April 26th: Bath
    5f Auction
  • Ran above expectations on debut and runs only 7 days after debut. Trainer has an acceptable record on the evidence of the two runners that have run off a short break to STO in 2003-4.  Profile [65]
  • May 19th: Doncaster
    6f Auction
  • 13/2 3rd favourite at Bath in a race run on soft where the field came to the stands' side. Pressed the pace for 4F and a neck behind the leaders - Takoda & Green Pride who stayed on to finish first and second - at halfway. Faded badly from there in a race run in a slow time to finish midfield and behind moderate types such as Royal Power who was also close to the pace.  Estimate [46]
  • The promise of his debut run looks even better given the subsequent performances of the runners he finished with. If he could reproduce just that level of form he would be a strong contender here receiving up to 7lb from the more expensive colts. Steps up to 6f.
  • However, his trainer's record with 2yos is poor and the moderate run he showed at Bath is not unusual for his 2yos. Difficult to place.  Profile [61 + 7 = 68]
  • May 28th: Goodwood
    6f Auction
  • 5/1 at Doncaster in a large field which split into two groups. Ran on the far side who were 2L clear overall at halfway. Went clear off the front of that group with Sir Xaar. Easily outpaced by that rival but a clear second. Possibly an advantage racing on the far side with the first 3 home racing there.  Estimate [65]
  • Improved back on firmer going at Doncaster but probably has limited development.  Profile [66 + 5 = 71]
  • June 11th: Doncaster
    6f Maiden
  • 3/1 2nd favourite at Godwood in a race with a good pace where the leaders mostly faded and three of the first four (including him in 4th) came from off the pace). Settled in 6th and just over 2L off the leaders at halfway. Made a little progress after halfway but 3rd at best.  Estimate [61]
  • The race he was fourth in last time has 'worked out well' with the 2nd & 3rd winning since and the 5th & 6th placing in the same subsequent race.  Estimate [68]
