July 8th: Lingfield AW
6f Maiden Fillies' |
Made a high price as a foal at the sales.
Good, but much derided sire (for getting 'morning glories' and 'soft ones')
has an average record with British raced 2yos. Wins tend to come from mid
season onwards over 7f+. He has had five poor to moderate debuts over 6f
so far.
Dam a 6f maiden winner in Ireland at 2yo and placed in better company at
3yo over 8f.
Good trainer has a clear strategy with his 2yos and tries not to waste
a run. He tries to win a race within the first two runs and steps better
runners up to Listed+ races. Very few run beyond 3TO. Debuts tend to be
very competent and to a good level within ability.
In 2002-3 his earliest debuts were competitive for places and better types
could win. In 2004 he ran few 2yos and two of the first three were poor
types (plus the Group class Soar).
He has run only two so far with one small, family bred, 2yo plaing on debut
and winning STO. He has had one other uncompetitive debut by a more expensive
type who has not run again.
In summary a mixed story with a solid pedigree and the foal price
suggesting a good physical type. Sire tends not to get 6f 2yo winners but
support from the dam here. Trainer normally very reliable and you would
expect she has some ability to be running this early but the record in
2004 and Kingscape's run this year raise slight doubts. Has ok draw 5/12.
