May 2nd: Kempton
5f Maiden |
Made middling price at the Tattersalls part 2 sales. At the higher end
of his trainer's purchase price range.
Sire has good record with 2yos and regularly gets examples of precocious
5f winners.
The dam showed average placed 5f form at 2yo. This is her first foal.
Medium sized stable has a simple strategy with 2yos trying to win a maiden
race in the first three runs. The debuts runs are usually competent and
10lbs below final rating. This is the trainer's first runner of the season
and he typically starts his 2yos in this week. The earliest debuts in each
season usually include the likely winners in the season.
In summary has the profile to be able to rate around 70 at 2yo and be suited
by 5f this early in the season. The earlier debut for this trainer raises
confidence that he may have reasonable ability. Profile [57]

May 20th: Haydock
5f Auction |
33/1 at Kempton in a mixed field with three well supported and typical
for trainer's runners to start at long SPs. Showed litle promise overall
though when his competitive types tend to show up on debut. However, he
lost 2 lengths with a slow pick up and slightly inexperienced overall.
The jockey was quite easy on him in the last furlong and let him drift
back in the field. Just over two lengths off the average pace at halfway
and made a brief effort as the race quickened after that before being allowed
to fade. Estimate [33]
The form of the other runners from his debut race has led to that race
being down rated and he finished with a moderate group who have competed
poorly since. Trainer's runners tend to show around 10lb improvement STO
but extra for this one given the lost ground and easy ride. Receives 2lb
from the topweights.. Profile [61 + 2 = 63]

June 11th: Doncaster
6f Maiden |
33/1 at Haydock in a race where the far side of the large group included
most of the pacemakers and that side mostly faded by 1f out. He ran freely
early on that side and pressed the pace in 3rd-4th. A length off the lead
at halfway he switched left to get a clear run but no progress and faded
with the other pacemakers. Estimate [53]
Has left the impression that he can do better than he has shown if he settles
and is more professional. However, he has finished unplaced in two moderate
race so a low level of form to improve from. Not obvious that he will stay
6f especially if he pulls hard again. Estimate [62]
