Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
June 4th: Doncaster
6f Auction
  • Made a good price at the Goffs sales.
  • By second season sire who made a good start with 2yos in 2004 with a solid number of winners and notable for some good quality types. Got 6f winners and runners tended to be better from May onwards.  He has had his first winner with a 6f runner on debut after the early 5f runners competed moderately.
  • Dam unraced at 2yo won both runs at 3yo including a Listed 8f race STO. She has produced a moderate older winner here and 2 abroad. A Number of her foals have followed her lead and not raced at 2yo.
  • Major trainer does not target debut wins and those he gets are usually with superior types and more likely later in the season. However, his first 2yo winner of the season has won in the last 2 seasons although the other earlier debuts have been more typical.
  • His 9 previous debuts in 2005 have included one FTO win with the other 8 unplaced and uncompetitive. Two of those quiet debuts have won STO looking 'different' horses. More professional and racing prominently.
  • He ran a moderate looking type in the earlier 6f Auction at the course in 2005.
  • In summary likely to be an uncompetitive debut.  Profile [52]
  • June 10th: Sandown
    7f Maiden
  • 8/1 at Doncaster and well drawn near the rail. Lost 2L at the start and showed inexperience and drop to the back of the rail group, and driven along, behind a good pace. More than 6L off the pace at halfway in the last 4 in a field of 16. Switched left around 1.5f out and showed a lengthier, 'galloper' action but plugged on through the faders to 5th beaten 3L by the winner (who made the strong pace). Estimate [64]
  • Inexperienced and outpaced at Doncaster over a flat 6f only 6 days ago. Steps up to 7f at the first opportunity. Trainer has had only one run off such a short break in 2003-4 who finished unplaced. His off breaks of 1-14 days is not as good as that at 15+.
  • An above average debut by 2005 standards despite the problems.  Estimate [74]
  • [Note: trainer interviewed before the race said that he was a playboy at home and he couldn't get him any fitter there because he wouldn't do the work. Running him here off a short break to improve his fitness & see if he will settle down. Displayed his 'yobbo' side by taking a flying kick at another runner on the way to post. On the plus side he did look to be listening when the jockey dealt with him to make it clear that wasn't going to be tolerated.]
