Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
May 7th: Newmarket
5f Maiden Fillies'
  • Owner bred by Mountgrange stud who are a long time supporter of the stable. They had the superior Moth Ball with the trainer in 2004. The previous filly by the mare was sold off for a cheap price.
  • First season sire made good impression at sales and yearlings sold well. B2yoR reviewed 29 of his yearlings and they were a good group and he should have a good 2005.
  • Sire won over 7f at 2yo but reverted to a top class sprinter at 3yo.
  • Sire has had two runners in 2005. One ran poorly on debut before showing good form STO and the other ran a good debut third on soft ground.
  • Dam is well related and an 8f 4yo winner in France. She has produced on winner from 4 foals. That runner won STO at 2yo over 6f and showed lesser form afterwards.
  • Younger trainer has varied his strategy with 2yos but seems to have settled for development debut runs. The FTO winners tend to be the better types and are more likely in the earlier stages of the season.
  • FTO SP does show some correlation to the actual performance and a shorter SP is significant.
  • Trainer has run six 2yos for this owner in 2002-4 and some signs that he chooses suitable races for them and they compete better than his average. The six debuts have produced a win and two second places and the unplaced runners have been at notably longer SPs.
  • In summary the sire has shown hints that he may well fulfil his sales promise. The trainer is unlikely to be using an early debut like this at Newmarket for a 'duff' 2yo for this owner. The fact that the owners kept her is a good sign given the dam's overall record. Probably will not be 'wound up' but has the 'feel' of a better debut for the trainer. A shorter SP would be a good sign given that the trainer times his 2yos and has a good understanding of their merits.  Profile [65]
  • June 10th: Sandown
    7f Maiden
  • 5/1 at Newmarket in a moderate maiden. Ran the rail and tracked a moderate pace at halfway. Made an effort 2F out as the race quicked and made a little progress to 3rd and then faded late.  Estimate [56]
  • May 28th ran in Lingfield turf 6f fillies' maiden. 11/2 and a similar run to that over 6f. Ran the rail and tracked the average pace to past halfway. Made a little progress to 3rd inside 2f out but without having the pace to get to the front two and stalled a little in the last furlong.  Estimate [63]
  • Steps up again to 7f here in line with her lack of pace but she hasn't finished either of her races off well.  Estimate [64 + 5 = 69]
