Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
May 30th: Sandown
5f Maiden Fillies'
  • Made a solid price at the Tattersalls part 2 sales.
  • By good sprint sire who can get early runners but better types tend to have some size and develop through season.
  • Sire has had moderate start to 2005 with one AW 5f win from six runners.
  • Dam is well related but a relatively cheap sales purchase and a moderate unplaced sprinter.
  • Good trainer that supports 2yo racing. His debut runners tend to be competent and the FTO wins come along with better runners who can win on better ability. However, he tends to choose his earliest debut runners well and most are competitive to place and win if they are useful+.
  • He has had four earlier debut runs in 2005 three of which were uncompetitive on debut. A free running type won a moderate to average race FTO.
  • This is the second 2yo to run since those four early debut runners (the first was 2nd FTO and runs again today). Three of those four have won (two STO after midfield debuts) and the other disappointed as strong favourite.
  • His debut runners between mid-May to early June in 2002-4 (i.e. after the early debuts of the identified precocious types) have bee a mix of types. They have mostly been average or better winners but most have needed the debut to develop from. Only the subsequent Royal Ascot winner Whazzat has won FTO in that period.
  • Trainer has used this race twice in 2002-4 with the superior Never A Doubt winning in 2002 on 3TO and a moderate type placed in a weaker version in 2004.
  • In summary just an average pedigree and price. Trainer has been very selective with 2yos to run so far although most debuts have lacked competitive edge.  Profile [60]
  • June 15th: York
    5f Group 2 Fillies'
  • Paddock reviewed at Sandown and rated 81. The biggest in the field although probably only average build an a little narrow and lengthy. A different type in a field of mostly smaller, more compact and more heavily built sprinters. Leggy, and a slightly weak neck but deep through, powerful behind and a good, rangy mover.' Would be improved by a stronger build but a likeable type. Notably fit on debut and looked to be here to win in a race the trainer has used for his better fillies.
  • Steady around  9/1 4th favourite. Broke slowly losing 4L. Ran quite freely after that and with her head cocked left handed badly. She did this at points throughout the race and looked unrideable at timess with the jockey more concerned with trying to get some control rather than riding a race. 5L behind after 1f and down to 4L at halfway. Made progress inside the last 2f despite the antics although had the advantage of racing near the rail which was a strong positive at the meeting. Estimate [68]
  • If you could ignore the notably awkwardness she showed on debut she left a quite strong impression that she's got something. If she had a stronger build and was a little less lengthy she would definitely have something.
  • Trainer does not run fillies in the race unnecessarily and she ran int he same maiden that his previous filly to run did (who finished 2nd). Trainer has made an excellent start with the Coventry winner and a second in the Chesham. She obviously has some niggles and it's not odds-on she'll run in a straight line with here head held properly. But in an average year she is one of the few who suggest they might have have a little more potential.  Profile [90?]
