April 18th: Windsor
5f Maiden |
Made good price at the Tattersalls part 1 sales, especially for the sire.
Third season sire made average start with his 2yos in 2003 but had a poor
season with less runners and quality in 2004. He only ever won a 6f himself
and his better types in 2003 were 6f winners. His only winner at 5f has
been in a seller on an uphill course.
Dam has a fine record in producing superior and precocious 5f 2yos with
her previous foals.
Major trainer does not target FTO wins and they tend to come along with
better types. He has made a slow start to 2005 but has now had two winners.
Trainer often uses this course to introduce 2yos and they are of a wide
levels of ability. Not unusually he has two runners in this race and this
one has the 'second' jockey.
In summary the dam and the trainer's methods suggest he should be at least
a useful+ 5f 2yo and develop at 6f. On trainer's methods he is unlikely
to be fully ready on debut but could be competitive to place and possibly
win if a very good type. Profile [66]

Post Race |
Likeable, neat type with average build and good attitude. Slightly lighter
and 'up' behind and needs to strengthen and not a full '5f' sprint type.
Ought to rate high 70s over 6f. Rated 77.
Trainer's second string to a cheaper type but ridden by a more 'competitive'
jockey with debut 2yos and better drawn. Ran close to stands' rail and
always prominent and kept on well. Can be a 75+ 6f sprinter. Estimate

May 6th: Lingfield
5f Maiden |
Made solid debut at Windsor and on paddock review looked a 70s rated 6f
sprinter and a ready type. The form of his debut second looks solid with
the 1st, 3rd & 6th (his stablemate) having won similar quality races
since.
The trainer targets STO wins and would expect solid improvement here.

5f Conditions |
4/7f at Lingfield and put in a likeable and professional performance to
outclass a moderate group. Broke well and crossed to the rail. Set a solid
pace and led by a length at halfway. Made an effort at 2f from home and
went clear for a quite easy win. Estimate [75]
Trainer's chosen runner over Cool Creek & Green Pride in a race he
has won with a Group 3 winner and had a 3rd place with a 90+ type. Not
pressed at Lingfield but quite impressive in a comfortable win and can
improve further. Profile [84]

Post Race |
Strong 8/11f. Looked slightly less taking here than at Windsor on his debut.
Tracked the average pace 3 to 4 wide from the rail and just over a length
off the pace at halfway. Race turned into a 2f sprint and showed a medium
change-of-pace to go just over a length clear by the start of the final
furlong and hung right to the rails. Kept on in the last furlong to hold
Classic Encounter but being overhauled by Scarlet Knight. Performed below
expectations but the average pace contributed to that. Looked better last
time out setting the pace on firmer going. Estimate [75]

June 16th: York
5f Group 3 |
Trainer chosen for the race and has taken the same route as his winner
in 2002 (maiden win, Windsor conditions). R Hughes rides Classic Encounter
int he race while R Moore rides this one.
Hs win last time was not a true 5f test but he had looked impressive enough
making his own pace at Lingfield. Rain at York and this may help because
he appeals more as a 6f type and would be vulnerable in a fast 5f race
on a flat track like York. Estimate [88]
