May 3rd: Bath
5f Maiden |
Made high price at the Tattersalls part 2 sales.
High class sire has a good but not startling record with 2yos. Gets winners
at all distances and get high quality types. Gets occasional 5f winners
(3 in the period 2002-4) but better record 6f+.
Dam has a quite high class and 8f+ pedigree. She has produced a Grade 1
winner in Peru and a listed placed runner in Germany.
The trainer does not target strong debuts and FTO wins tend to come along
with the best types and the occasional 'accident' in poor races. He has
settled into his normal pattern in 2005 with debuts tending to be competitive
to place for runners with ability but lacking the final 'edge'.
In summary an interesting pedigree and worth knowing why he was sold at
the Tattersalls part 2 sales rather than the part 1 section (the sales
are graded by pedigree and physical checks so a part 2 entrant has already
been assessed as being less likely to sell well). The pedigree says 6f+
but the trainer is the most notable one who runs any pedigree over 5f ("I
train horses not pedigrees"). Would need to be useful to win this on debut
over 5f against runners with experience. Profile [61]

May 14th: Newbury
6f Maiden |
Drifted notably to 12/1 on debut and a bad sign. A poor run in a very slow
race and faded badly after halfway when he was 5 lengths down. Ran well
below expectations and suggested he's moderate and will need to develop
for nurseries. Estimate [28]
Trainer runs two in the race and this is presumably the second string.
Likely to be a necessary run to get him ready for nurseries. Profile

6f Maiden |
40/1 at Newbury with a 7lb apprentice suggesting little was expected. Ran
slightly freely and tracked an average pace by 2L at halfway. Outpaced
as the race quickened 2f out and slowly plugged on. Estimate [41]
Tries the AW and has a minor jockey associated with the stable riding (probably
about the fourth string jockey). Profile [46]

June 9th: Wolverhampton
6f Maiden |
20/1 5th favourite here LTO. Race had a strong pace and the favourite ran
poorly. Held up behind and more than 4L off the pace at halfway. Made progress
in the straight with a number of outpaced and/or held up runners (who finished
1st, 2nd & 4th). Estimate [62]
Appeared to show improved form LTO although not looking a 6f type
and more of a staying performance. The winner of that race would have been
placed in a Listed race 5 days ago with a clear run so difficult to identify
whether he improved greatly or plugged on into a group of fading pacemakers.
Had looked to be developing for a nursery career before his last run.
