Lingfield 5f (AW)
Conditions Race (D1) |
Bought at Goffs in (Ir) but note that the trainer had the half brother
in 2004 who was retained at sales.
By First Season Sire who made early 5f debut as a 2yo and developed through
the season at 6f. Made moderate to average impression at sales.
B2yoR rated 9 of the sire's yearlings and notable for smaller, slightly
light build types. None were rated over 70 including several which cost
more than this one.
Dam has sprint pedigree and related to minor older winners. Produced moderate
2yo for similar money in 2004.
Trainer has good record with 2yos given the sales prices. 2yos are assessed
at home before they run. Most 2yos develop from debut to reach best on
3TO. However, the earliest debuts each season tend to be competitive and
a shorter SP is significant.
In summary a moderate pedigree and likely to be limited. Respect for trainer
and their choice of this race for possible debut raises issue that this
may be better runner. However, also quite likely that they know this race
normally does not take much winning for the money. Profile [56]

March 20th: Post Lingfield race |
Finished 3rd at 100/30 second favourite.
Notably small but with good build for size and neat, ready type.
Ran wide downhill, around bend and wider into straight but had every chance
and clear third best.
Probably limited by size but capable of lowish 60s rating in early season
sprints. Estimate [56]

Race would be only seven days after debut. Also declared for the Musselburgh
5f race on March 27th.
Would assume an improvement from debut to close to best rating.

POST RACE |
11/4f and performed below his rating at Lingfield eight days ago.
His trainer had said he would not run if the ground was softer than GS
so perhaps the ground was a slight factor in his underperformance.
However, worth noting the stables very good 3TO record and this partly
caused by runner's rating to a lower level STO with a break less than 14
days, as this one had.
Add to that he's small and limited and it was obvious even on TV with the
bigger and rangier Wovoka was 'coasting' along next to him that he's not
that good. Estimate [46]

April 9th: Declared for
5f Lingfield Auction |
Runs back on the Polytrack after a poor effort on soft turf going on his
last run. Trainer has a good record with 3TO runners.
In summary he looked small and limited by his size on paddock review and
has been outclassed by better types (Wovoka & Danjet for example) in
his two races so far. Should be capable of showing an improved rating from
his debut run and with his experience show up well in this race. Still
vulnerable to any runner with more size and physical range in movement.

June 2nd: Brighton
5.3f Maiden |
5/2 second favourite at Lingfield back in early April. Broke best and ran
1 wide off the rail. Pressed the pacemaker by a neck downhill. Outpaced
in the straight by a slightly bigger filly. Estimate [61]
Has been given an 8 week break after being unable to win a weak early season
races and outpaced by bigger rivals each time. Has looked to be limited
by his size and limited scope to develop. Should handle the track but likely
to find 'something' able to pull away from him on the uphill finish here.
