Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
May 16th: Windsor
5f Maiden Fillies'
  • Made a good price at the Tattersalls part 1 sales but not high by it's standards.
  • Reviewed at the sales and rated 69 with an above average chance of being a 2yo winner although not obviously useful+. Medium sized and just above average build. Slightly narrow and slightly lighter behind raise the issue of whether she'll be quick enough for 5f.
  • Sire has a very good record with 2yos and ok for producing 6f and precocious runners. Two of his previous four runners in 2005 have already won, one on debut and the other STO. Another has put up a very strong debut over 6f.
  • Older dam is quite well related and did not race. As is often the case she produced her best runners (including a Listed 6f 2yo) with her earliest foals. She has not produced a winner since her 1996 foal.
  • Good trainer has a well above average record with 2yos. He looks to win a maiden in the first two runs and then step the better 2yos up to conditions races or higher. He assesses 2yos at home and debut runs used to be mostly competent and places were common and the better 2yos could win on debut.
  • Trainer has had four debut runs in 2005 with one a solid second after finding slight trouble and finishing well (won STO). The other three have drifted in the market and been comfortably beaten.
  • It seems the trainer has not had his early debuts quite as forward as he used to have in the last two seasons.
  • In summary it appears that the sire has managed to produce a better type out of an older dam who'd appeared to have lost the ability. Ought to be a solid 70+ 2yo although slightly difficult to read the trainer's debuts in 2005 (he used to be much easier to tie down). Poorly drawn in 4 of 16. Profile [64]
  • May 31st: Redcar
    6f Maiden Fillies'
  • Paddock reviewed at Windsor and still a neat type but did not appear to have developed from the sales. A little narrow and rating kept at 69.
  • 33/1 with a poor draw but made a good break and settled in fourth place in a race where the first 5 were in position and clear of the others after a furlong. Tracked the leader by 2L at halfway and driven along but responded and kept on to take 2nd. Estimate [70]
  • The Windsor race looked moderate to average other than the winner (Oceans Apart) and the 3rd & 4th have been beaten in similar races since. The 7th (debut for J Gosden) has won a similar Lingfield maiden). Looked to have limited scope and the trainer often send this type North STO to ensure a maiden win.  Profile [74]
