Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
May 9th: Redcar
5f Novice
  • Sold for middling price at Doncaster 2yo sales in April. Made only slightly more than he had been retained for as a yearling (and less of an increase than his keep charges in the interim).
  • Sire has good record with relatively few UK runners. He had a mixed pedigree but gets winners at 5f, including early season and ok quality. For e.g. Siena Gold in 2004. He has had three poor runners here so far in 2005.
  • The dam has a notably mixed sprint/middle distance pedigree but won over 6f at 2yo and ran in a Group 3 race (well beaten) after her maiden win. She showed little form at 3yo and was tried in a visor and up to 8f. A real disappointment at stud and has produced only four foals, no winner and one placed 2yo.
  • Trainer has poor 2yo record, debuts usually competent but at low level, gets occasional placed debuts in weak races including in early season. He has had four similar midfield debut runners in 2005. This will be the first runner from the 2yos sales and has not been in the stable that long.
  • In summary an acceptable pedigree but the dams record is a worry. However, he has attracted similar bids at three sales so has some physical positives and runs early. Trainer has not had him long but should be competent and a good sign that he has a stronger jockey.  Profile [59]
  • May 16th: Edinburgh
    5f Auction
  • 10/1 fifth favourite on debut against previous winners. Made a typical trainer debut by being competent and breaking well. Settled in second pressing the experienced Picostar. A neck off the avergae pace at halfway he was slightly outpaced as the race quickened inside 2F from home and just plugged on from there. Looked a similar size to the moderate fillies in that race. Estimate [60]
  • Trainer's 2yos tend not to progress from debut ratings. Trainer has a poor record with STO runs off this break of only 7 days (he has a poor STO record overall though with only two places in the last 2 years). Gives 4lb+ to the other runners in this Auction race. Profile [58]
