March 30th: Declared
Folkestone 5f Maiden |
Well above average price for the cheaper end of the two Doncaster sales.
Reviewed at the sales and rated 71 and with slightly above average chance
of being competitive at 2yo. Small but with solid build if lighter behind,
deep in front and a good, progressive mover. Overall he appealed as a minor
early 2yo winner.
By an underused sire whose record has declined as he gets less mares and
they have less quality. However he is still capable of turning out the
odd competitive sprint 2yo each season, it's a question of picking which
ones.
Older dam has a patchy career and definitely seems limited in terms of
the quality she can produce.
Younger trainer with developing stable and has tried different approaches
to debut runs with 2yos. However his earliest debut in 2002 and 2004 were
competitive to place and one won. In 2004 the earliest debuts produced
a win and two seconds at 14/1, 10/1 and 9/2. None of these three improved
after their second run. However, most of those debut places were in weaker
races than this promises to be.
Trainer has two runners and not obvious from jockeys which is preferred.
In summary, the sales price (given his pedigree) and the physical review
at the sales suggest he should be the competitive little early 2yo that
the trainer won early with in 2004. Likely to be competent on debut and
might get a place if the race proves not up to the expected standard. In
any case, one to assess closely for STO potential. Profile [60]

March 30th: Folkestone
Post Race |
Was 11/2 joint third favourite and the first string of his trainer's two
runners. Lost some ground at the start (as did his trainer's other runner)
in a slow race on soft but recovered to be in touch before a solid fade
later in the race.
Trainer had his early runners in 2004 ready to compete to their best in
2004 but some minor excuses for this one. On sales review, trainer approach
and early debut he is worth another chance to show better form, probably
at Lingfield. Estimate [25]

April 5th: Declared for
Folkestone 5f Maiden |
Trainer ran two in the Folkestone race 6 days ago and both run again here,
both with the same jockeys.
Trainer has had one placed runner from three 2yos that have made a STO
run after a break shorter than 8 days.
Both runners showed inexperience and fades on debut here. This one has
the profile to do better. Profile [58]

April 5th: Folkestone
Post Race |
Drifted from 9/2 to 11/2. A better run than his debut and he broke well
and ran slightly freely in the lead. Led for 4f and looked to travel well
and had the winner (for example) under a little pressure for pace at times.
However, faded notably (again) in the last half furlong looking as if he
didn't stay. Estimate [60]

April 11th: Declared
Lingfield 5f Maiden |
One of four runners in the race whose form is tied together by two maiden
races run in slowish & slow times on turf at Folkestone. This is a
different test.
On the evidence of his run last time this downhill 5f on better going should
be a help to him. Likely to be involved for the lead and prominent although
possibly not quite getting home. Profile [66]
Interesting to note that the jockey that rode him on his previous two runs
switches to a likely outsider for a small trainer.
