Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
April 6th: Declared for
Nottingham 5f Maiden
  • Sold for good price at Doncaster St Leger sales. Bought by agent D McGreavy who has a tie-up with the trainer and they work hard together to get winners with the sales purchases and the maximise their rating.
  • Reviewed at sales and rated 75 with an above average chance of being a competitive 2yo. Should be able to rate 80+ mid season.
  • By veteran sire who has a good record with 2yos. Has better record at 6f+ but can get precocious 5f types.
  • Dam cost 45k gns at sales but only ran once. She has produced minor sprint winners so far.
  • Trainer's earliest debut runners (before end April) are usually winners during the season, often STO.
  • Trainer has good record with 2yos but targets STO wins and debuts normally competent while leaving room for good improvement STO.
  • He used only to get debut winners with runners in Italy. However in 2003-4 he had 5 debut winners although some of those seemed to be 'accidents' whereby the natural competence of his debut runners was enough to win weak races.
  • He has only had one runner in 2005 so far and that was another debut win at 11/2 in a weak race.
  • In summary a solid pedigree backed up by a good sales price and a good sales review. Ought to be competent on debut but with room for good improvement. However in a field without a strong profile runner could be competitive for a win on natural competence. Profile [66]
  • April 6th: Nottingham
    Post Race
  • Was steady around 15/2 but ended at 13/2 late. Was inexperienced in the race and had to be driven to keep up with the group on soft ground. Plugged on late to get to midfield as the leaders faded and, at least, was still going forward at the line. Continue to track on better going and watch for support on next run.  Estimate [46]
  • April 29th: Nottingham
    5f Novice
  • Showed poor from on debut and a disappointing run in 5th. The 3rd, 4th and 6th from that race have been well beaten on subsequent runs  and seeming to confirm the view of a poor 'slog' of a race.
  • Never got into the earlier race and driven by the jockey from early in the race. He has first time blinkers here. In summary a lot of obvious negatives and may not have the right attitude to express his ability. However, the trainer has a good STO record and he ought to have more ability than he showed on debut.  Profile [66]
  • April 29th: Nottingham
    Post Race
  • Third favourite and backed from 7/2 to 3/1 for a trainer where support on STO runs should usually be taken notice of. He had run an inexperienced and possibly unwilling debut here on softer going but his reliable trainer can be trusted to identify his better horses and sort out the problems.
  • Broke slightly left handed from the outside stall and driven by the jockey and showed enough pace to lead and cross in front of the field to get to the stands' rail. None of the others looked keen to lead so he did not have to stretch himself too much to complete this manoeuvre. Set a solid pace and more than a length clear at halfway. Quickened the race from inside 2f out and kept on well without seeing another horse given his FT blinkers. The level of form is not strong and he did not look notably 'bigger' amongst the group. Probably can improve a little further but not useful. Estimate [70]
  • May 9th: Windsor
    5f Novice
  • Trainer's runners tend to show close to their peak rating by STO runs. He won a little comfortably and it was a notable improvement on his debut. He looked not to have grown from the sales and may be a little below the expectations set for him at the sales.  Profile [77]
  • May 22nd: Brighton
    6f Novice
  • 4/1 3rd favourite of 5 at Windsor. Allowed to front run but set only an average pace. Led by a half length at halfway from King Malachi (who he meets again here) and got outpaced by the better types as the race quickened inside 2f out. Beaten by better types and even with a stronger pace would probably have not improved his finishing position.  Estimate [71]
  • Steps up to 6f after being quite comfortably outspeeded later in the race by better types last time. Meets King Malachi and again has to give him weight. Unlikely to show much improvement.
  • Has front run in his last two runs and meets other pace pressers here so his jockey will have to decide whether to hold him up. Penalised 4lb for his win but recives 2lb from the topweight.  Profile [71 + 2 = 73]
