Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
May 17th: Leicester
6f Maiden
  • Retained for a middling to solid price at the Doncaster St Leger sales. A very small increase on the foal price.
  • Second season sire made good start in 2004 with a good number of winners and some with quality. The better types developed through season. Got winners between 5-7f but better record at 6f and only one winner before May 21. He had his first two winners in 2005 in the last week.
  • Dam is quite well related and has a mixed pedigree. She was unraced and this is her first foal.
  • Good trainer that supports 2yo racing. His debut runners tend to be competent and the FTO wins come along with better runners who can win on better ability. However, he tends to choose his earliest debut runners well and most are competitive to place and win if they are useful+.
  • He has had four earlier debut runs in 2005 three of which were uncompetitive on debut. A free running type won a moderate to average race FTO.
  • This is the first 2yo to run since those four early debut runners. Three of those four have won (two STO after midfield debuts) and the other disappointed as strong favourite 3 days ago.
  • His debut runners between mid-May to early June in 2002-4 (i.e. after the early debuts of the identified precocious types) have bee a mix of types. They have mostly been average or better winners but most have needed the debut to develop from. Only the subsequent Royal Ascot winner Whazzat has won FTO in that period.
  • In summary has an acceptable pedigree to be an average winner but would need to be better than that to win on debut.  Profile [64]
  • May 30th: Leicester
    5f Maiden
  • Drifted from 3/1 2nd favourite 5/1 on debut here in a race with a solid pace where the favourite underperformed. Settled in 4th place and 2L off the leader (won) at halfway. Made an effort at 2F out and good progress to close to less than a length to the experienced winner.  Estimate [62]
  • A good run here on debut and the winner has run acceptable under a penalty since. Again meets the favourite from that race - John Claude. Trainer's runners have shown contrasting STO runs in 2005. Two have run poorly to lower ratings after good debuts (possibly both due to ground conditions). The two that made just ok debuts have improved by 8-14lb and won STO. Worth noting he has been selective and has only run 5 of his 2yos and three have won. Profile [72]
