May 12th: Salisbury
5f Maiden |
Made lowish price at Tattersalls part 2 sales and typical price paid by
the trainer.
Second season sire made good start in 2004 with a good number of winners
and some with quality. The better types developed through season. Got winners
between 5-7f but better record at 6f and only one winner before May 21.
He had his first two winners in 2005 in the last three days.
Dam was bred by Hamdam Al Maktoum and very well related but a moderate
runner. She has consistently produced winners at stud and the best have
developed from 3yo+. She seems to have been sold on though.
Trainer has had an increase in 2yos in the last two seasons. The earlier
debuts in the season tend to be winners during the season at various levels.
In normal seasons debuts are competent but only the best runners win FTO.
He has had two previous runners in 2005 who have both finished second on
debut. The first at 8/1 (won STO) and the next as strongly backed second
favourite.
In summary a pedigree that should need 6f+ and a little more time. The
trainer normally identifies the best 2yos he has and runs them in the first
batch. His two previous 2005 debuts have been by ok types. Is this another
or is this a lesser type being given a run to get going? On the evidence
of Tous Les Deux at Chepstow the market should be informative.

May 20th: Bath
5.7f Maiden |
20/1 5th favourite at Salisbury in a tough maiden run on very fast ground
with a strong tailwind. The better runners in the race set a good pace
and produced an All Age 5f record for the course by effectively running
as a team. This one did best of the rest and was given a quiet ride overall
given that he had no chance to compete with the leading group. Ran the
rail, more than 4L off the leaders at halfway and plugged on to keep finish
5th. Estimate [65]
Although he finished 5th on debut it was a tough race and he appeared to
run a typical debut for his trainer's early 2yos in 2005. They have been
mostly ready on debut. Profile [71]

June 4th: Chepstow
6f Auction |
3/1 favourite at Bath ridden by a 3lb apprentice. Travelled well for 4f
but no response when asked to progress and faded in the ladt furlong to
fifth. Estimate [54]
Steps up to 6f from 5.7f after fading in the last furlong on a stiffer
track. Profile [60 + 5 = 65]
