Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
April 20th: Lingfield AW
5f Maiden Fillies'
  • Sold for good price in the select part of the Tattersalls October part 1 sales (which replaced the separate 'Houghton' sales in 2004). Got into the select catalogue because of the dam's relations. Best lots in that part of the sale went for more than a million guineas so this price was just 'good'
  • First season sire made good impression at sales and yearlings sold well. B2yoR reviewed 29 of his yearlings and they were a good group and he should have a good 2005. Sire won over 7f at 2yo but reverted to a top class sprinter at 3yo.
  • Sire has had one uncompetitive runner on wettish turf so far.
  • Dam has very good pedigree and a half-sister to three Group 1 winners out of the mare Alidiva. She was a winner in France but it took to 4yo to get the win. This is her first foal
  • Trainer does not target strong debuts and FTO winners tend to be his best types. He has had four debuts in 2005 and three have fitted this model with Abbielou being the excaption managing a sound third at the Newmarket Craven meeting where he has introduced his most natural 2yos in the last two seasons.
  • The trainer's early debuts at this course in 2002-4 have normally been limited minor winners. The one exception was Romantic Liason (for the same owner) who won on debut here on May 28 in preparation for her Queen Mary win.
  • In summary a very good but unproven pedigree. Trainer's FTO 2yos rarely win unless they are Group race quality and record in 2005 suggests that approach has not changed. So the questions are how good is this one and why is she out relatively early? This isn't a strong race but she would have to be a 85+ rating filly in the season to win on debut rating in the late 60s. The trainer tends to be very enthusiastic about his 2yos so even if she's just 'Ok' there might well be a 'whisper' for her (consider Coburn's debut as favourite two days earlier). Profile [62]
  • June 1st: Nottingham
    5f Maiden Fillies'
  • First declared for a Lingfield AW race 6 weeks ago and a non runner. Presumably she's had a setback and been given time to recover?
  • Likely to be prepared to run in the Queen Mary whatever her ability level. Raise profile for the later debut.  Profile [69]
