Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
May 1st: Newmarket
5f Maiden
  • Made good price at the Goffs sales in  Ireland.
  • By second season sire that made a very good impression in 2004 with a good set of sprint 2yos, including early 5f winners. He has had a 5f winner already in 2005 and a good second placer.
  • The dam has a reasonably stout pedigree but is well related being a half-sister to 8f Group 1 2yo Be My Chief. Her first 2yo, by a less precocious sire than Namid, did not run.
  • The trainer does not target strong debut runs and some can be inexperienced in early season. The FTO winners tend to be his best types and such a win is usually an indicator of a Group class performer.
  • In 2003-4 he seems to have selected his debut runners at this course with care and they have competed better than his average FTO runners. He has run two at the course this year with one placing and a poor runner well beaten.
  • In summary a likeable pedigree that could produce an above average winner and the sire can provide the necessary 5f zip. Would need to be useful to compete on debut although the trainer's choice of FTO runners here in 2003-4 suggest he may be good enough to compete for a place. Profile [69]
  • May 1st: Newmarket
    Post Race
  • Received late support from 12/1 to 8/1 for a trainer who does not target strong debut runs. However, his Newmarket debut runners have tended to be his better types in the last two seasons.
  • Above average size and heavily built with a "bull" front. Slightly lengthy for size and build but with a shortish neck. Had room to improve his fitness. He carries himself well and had a good attitude. His shorter neck and build along with his rhythmical movement on the firm ground as he led was somewhat reminiscent of Choisir.
  • Broke well and set a solid but not strong pace from the start. Led by half a length at halfway and quickened the race from 2f out. Had the advantage of a good place to start the sprint-for-home but showed a real quickening of the pace and looked likely to win until slightly faltering late on on the uphill section and passed by a readier and quite hard ridden opponent.
  • A debut of this quality for the trainer is an almost certain sign of a Group class runner and it would be surprising if he could not rate 100+ over 5f in the season. He ought to be effective at a high level at 5f and may well run in the Norfolk Stakes. Estimate [77]
  • May 30th: Sandown
    5f Listed
  • Form of the debut race has had mixed results with the 5th a good winner over 6f NTO but the fourth failing on firm ground as favourite.
  • Trainer regularly runs maidens in the race and had him entered for a Leicester maiden but runs here instead. Looks better class than the trainer's previous runner sin the last 3 years.  Profile [92]
  • May 30th: Sandown
    Post Race
  • Above medium size and heavy build. Mostly in proportion with a short, strong neck. Mature but room to develop and tighten. Strong in front and ok range to his movement. A useful+ sprinter at least and can develop to 95 rating.
  • Broke a little slowly & settled 2nd rank off the solid pace to halfway around 5 wide of the rail in a race where the far rail seemed an advantage. Travelling well at halfway and went clear with Sunrise Safari & Salut D'Amour from 2F out as the weaker rail runners faded and none of the centre tracked progressed.
  • A little outpaced by Sunrise Safari who went a length clear. Kept on but Salut D'Amour produced a better finish. Has now been picked off in the last half furlong in uphill finishes in both races. Looks the type to better allowed to get into a fast rhythm on a flat track rather than being ridden for a 'finish'. Estimate [85]
  • June 13th: Windsor
    5f Maiden
  • Travelled as well as anything at Sandwon but lacked a turn of pace. Runs here to break his maiden rather than at the Royal meeting which is untypical of the trainer. He normally starts trying for 'tidy up' maiden wins after Ascot. Would be preferable to see him set a pace here rather then get involved in a 2f sprint.  Profile [84]
