April 13th: Declared
Newmarket 5f Mf |
Sire has a poor record with 2yos and 2003-4 were moderate for both number
of winners and quality. He has never had a British 5f 2yo winner and wins
before mid-season are rare.
Dam was a useful 2yo and has a fine record at stud having produced three
runners that have rated 90+ with her previous foals. These have included
the May 5f 2yo winner Brecon Beacon who won on debut for the same trainer
but showed better form at 6-7f. He was by a non-5f but slightly more precocious
sire than Desert Prince (Spectrum).
Trainer used to identify his early season 2yos and often run up winning
sequences with them including on debut. Possibly because of lack of quality
that hasn't been the case 2002-4. However the earliest debut runners in
each season have usually been competitive at low level but needing a debut
run to show peak form STO after a short break.
Trainer has had one uncompetitive runner in 2005 so far at a lesser course.
Better runners tend to debut at at Newmarket, Newbury, York, etc.
Trainer had an unplaced runner in the race in 2004 for an important owner
breeder. That 2yo did not run again (not untypical with early season debuts
for the trainer in 2004) and the trainer felt she was better than she had
shown. She started at 6/1.
In summary a mixed story but the record of the dam warrants respect. However
the sire's record and the early season debut are less positive. Trainer's
earliest debuts usually need a run this early in the season these days.

Post Race |
Half sister to two runners that have won over 5f on debut (one at 3yo and
one at 2yo) who have developed to show better form and rated over 90 later
over 6-7f. She did not quite manage to make the dam's record three but
ran a strong race full of promise to be able to rate much higher over 6f
plus. She was probably slightly disadvantaged from being on the 'wrong'
side away from the pacemakers and gave these runners a start. However she
finished best uphill in the last 1f. She rated above expectations despite
drifting from 8/1 to 10/1. Estimate [70]

5f Maiden Fillies' |
Produced a very good debut over 5f and looking as if 6f+ would bring good
improvement. Runs after 10 day break and stays at 5f and a slight niggle
that the trainer's 2yos do not always show improvement STO.
In summary should improve from her debut and the dam seems to produce good
professional types whatever the circumstances. Slight niggles if this were
a fast 5f and with trainer STO record but should set a strong standard.

Dad run what seemed a very promising debut at Newmarket and finishing strongest
of all after sitting in midfield. However, the third from that race had
run earlier today at Leicester and been beaten, at odds-on, in a moderate
Leicester maiden. That filly (Abbielou) was surprisingly small in paddock
review and this raised concerns over this filly because she had looked
a similar size on TV pictures.
In a field with nothing else backed she was steady at 8/13f. Ran a different
race and set a solid pace until after halfway and seemed to lack pace as
the race slightly quickened inside 2f out and then plugging on for hard
driving having drifted to the far rail. Performed well below expectations
and the reasons are probably some mixture of:-
The Newmarket fillies' race finished second in was probably not as good
as it seemed;
She's small and with moderate scope to develop from the debut run;
The ground was slightly softer here and her size may mean she's better
on a firmer surface.
She's not a real 5f filly and would be better picking off stalled runners
in a stiffer 5f finish as at Newmarket.
Her trainer's unusual record with early debuts. In 2004 the first 9 debuts
through to May 21st included 5 runners who did not run again and another
that had one other moderate run (Planet Tomato who had made a similar good
debut). In 2003 several early runners did not run again or had long breaks
to the second run (Western Roots, Powerful Parrish, Lady Procurer, Happy
Crusader for example). Estimate [51]

5f Maiden Fillies' |
Sticks at 5f despite the run at Haydock. Here run there looks a little
better given the subsequent runs of the two fillies that beat her but she
still did not look a real 5f type.
Drawn 6 of 15 and will need to show the make the same early effort to get
a good position. Profile [68]

June 17th: York
6f Fillies' Group 3 |
Paddock reviewed at Windsor and better than expected and the best type
in the group. Just below average size and compact but well muscled and
still developing. Deep through and still had scope to improve fitness despite
3TO. Rated 76.
3/1 favourite and gave some trouble loading into the stalls. Tracked the
lead by 2L at halfway, made an effort to lead before the final furlong
and won slightly comfortable. Estimate [74]
Had the scope to improve with development and 6f at Windsor in line with
the sibling's record. Profile [86]
