Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
May 14th: Newbury
6f Maiden Div II
  • Made a good to high price at the Tattersalls part 1 sales. Not outstanding given the dam's relations.
  • Reviewed at the sales and rated quite highly at 79. Above medium size and build.
  • Sire has a below average record with 2yos and his wins tend to come from July onwards. He also has a better record over 7f but does get 6f winners. He has had 7 unsuccessful runners over 5f in 2005 but had the FTO winner of the first 6f race of the season yesterday.
  • Dam is very well bred and was a 3yo winner in Ireland. She has produced one superior runner who developed to be a 5yo Group 3 winner.
  • Trainer used to identify his early season 2yos and often run up winning sequences with them including on debut. Possibly because of lack of quality that hasn't been the case 2002-4. However the earliest debut runners in each season have usually been competitive at low level but needing a debut run to show peak form STO after a short break.
  • He has had 6 debuts in 2005 and the five that ran at 'lesser' courses have been very poor. The one solid debut was a second place in a maiden at this course. He typically runs his better types at the major courses on debut (here, York, etc.). The better types can place in these tougher maidens but rarely win nowadays.
  • He had the surprise runner-up at 33/1 in the first Division of this race.
  • In summary out to be a reasonably strong trainer debut.  Profile [74]
  • June 3rd: Goodwood
    6f Maiden
  • Backed from 9/1 to 13/2 in a market where a number were supported. Race run on firm ground which did not suit some and a possibility that a number who ran at the meeting (all ages) have felt the effects and run poorly since.
  • Broke ok & settled midfield after 1F 2L off the leader. Started to lose ground before halfway and had to be driven along (ground too firm?). Close to 4L off the lead at halfway. Continued to be driven and made some progress from halfway to 1.5f out before fading and looking uncomfortable with his head held to the right. Estimate [43]
  • Looked a good type at the sales and ought to be capable of 75+ rating. However, will the debut have affected him? The trainer also has a variable STO record even with runners that ran well on debut in the last 3 years so couldn't be sure of improvement.  Profile [65]
