Made a solid price at the Tattersalls part 2 sales.
First season sire made good impression at sales and yearlings sold well.
B2yoR reviewed 29 of his yearlings and they were a good group and he should
have a good 2005.
Sire won over 7f at 2yo but reverted to a top class sprinter at 3yo.
Sire has had seven runners in 2005 but no winner. One ran poorly on debut
before showing good form STO three others have run solid debuts in better
races. Worth considering whether his 2yos are proving less precocious
than his 'top class sprinter' tag would lead you to believe.
Dam is well related and won over 8f in France.
Relatively new trainer. Son of Lord Magadale (family stud is Fonthill where
Julio Mariner etc. were bred). Developing a reputation as a very good,
dual purpose, trainer. He has a strategy with his 2yos and he knows when
his horses are ready to win.
It is notable that the earlier debuts in the season are the better 2yos
and the likely winners. In 2003 his first debut was 3rd FTO and an average
later winner and the second debut was Group 3 winner Pastoral Pursuits
who was also third on debut. In 2004 he only had two 2yo winners but the
best of them was his first runner and she won on debut.
His debut runners are usually around 10-14lbs below final rating although
the better types can improve a little more. This strategy means that the
useful+ 2yos can rate over 70 on debut and place in maidens and occasionally
win.
In summary a solid pedigree with hints of good quality but unproven. A
good sign that he is the trainer's first runner suggesting he is an average
winner at the very least. Profile [70]
