Expensive buy but sire's yearlings sold well and probably just an average
price for the sire.
By second season sire that made a very good start with his first 2yos in
2004. However he had no winner at 5f and no win before June 26.
The dam is well related and a useful 5f+ winner in Italy. She produced
a 6f winner (that debuted on April 17th & developed through the season)
up to 8.5 furlongs to a sire (Singspiel) whose record is less speedy/precocious
than King's Best.
The trainer has run three useful 2yos in this race in 2002-4.
The trainer does not target FTO wins and they come along with superior
runners and/or moderate races.
In summary a very interesting 2yo who on profile ought to be an above average
winner and might develop through the season. Some doubts over whether 5f
in March is entirely suitable but the trainer is notable for getting 5f
wins with not obviously precocious types. Unlikely to be mentally ready
to win on debut unless class can carry him through in a moderate race (like
Bravo Ragasso for the trainer in 2002). Profile [64]

POST RACE |
Fit enough to perform on debut. Just a neat, medium size type and lacking
any great scope. Slightly weak mover behind. The name 'Simply The Guest'
kept popping up when looking at him. Paddock Review rating 76.
Trainer should get him to win rating into the 80s (at some level) but unlikely
to be the superior, development type his profile suggested was a possibility.
Traded as 2/1 favourite before slight drift to 5/2jf late.
Performed well below expectations. The obvious reason for this was his
inexperience, slow break, slow pick up and giving the impression he hasn't
grasped what being a 'racehorse' means yet.
Also he was the slightly disappointing in Paddock Review. Estimate

Was the trainer's first runner of the season and was clueless. Looked a
75+ winner on paddock review but not superior.
Has had nearly a three week break and should be more professional here
and capable of 70+ which would be competitive unless one of the 2yos on
debut is superior. Profile [72]

Post Race |
Opened at 100/30 and drifted to 4/1 before some support back to 7/2. He
was an entirely different horse from debut and thoroughly professional
and 'listening' for his jockey's instructions.
Got to the rail as those inside him started slowly and shared the pace
in a line-of-three. Held head slightly cocked left-handed but not a real
problem. Looked to quicken inside 2f out and had the rest of the runners
immediately under pressure. Stretched out well and kept on strongly uphill
to the finish and winning slightly comfortably. Can rate 80+ next time
and fulfil the expectations of his initial review but still needs to prove
he can be useful+. Estimate [77]

5f Listed |
Trainer's chosen runner over BA Foxtrot who would have carried an extra
penalty for a win in a valuable Irish race on heavy.
The performances of the runners who finished 4th+ in his debut race (other
than Red Clubs who was given a quiet introduction) suggest that form is
slightly over-rated. However he has the potential to rate 80+ and the last
week has shown that the trainer is getting his early debut 2yos well into
their stronger training and has produced strong performances from them.
