  • Made a middling piece at the Goffs sales but notably less than he did as a foal. Gets into the Auction race on the basis of the yearling price.
  • Third season sire made excellent start in 2003 with 2yos with a lot of winners and plenty of quality. 2004 was a real step back  with less runners and just 7 average to moderate winners. 2005 likely to be closer to 2004 than 2003.
  • Sire ok for 5f and winners tend to be from May onwards but with a poor debut win record.
  • He has had one winner in 2005 in a fillies' race where he had three of the better runners and he got the first & second. 
  • Dam unraced and has produced one expensive sales purchase that showed poor form on the sole 2yo run in 2004.
  • Major 2yo trainer does not target strong debuts and FTO wins come along with the useful 2yos. He has only had a single FTO win and 12 places from 36 debuts to date (partly indicating the lack of some quality 2yos). 
  • The trainer introduced a number of useful 2yos in this period in 2004 but has not shown that trait so far in 2005 (perhaps he doesn't have them?) 
  • He has used this race for moderate to average quality types in the last two seasons. 
  • Trainer runs three in the race with the other two having run previously. However, this one appears to be the first string with R Hughes riding.
  • In summary a reasonable but unproven pedigree on the dam's side. Interesting to know whether the lower yearling price was due to a physical problem or a 'stall vice'. Given the trainer's FTO record it would be easy to dismiss him but two factors suggest that might not be correct. Firstly that R Hughes is riding and secondly he has been entered several times previous including in Listed races which suggests he has a quite high ranking within the early season 2yos in the yard (or just possibly that the owner wanted to tun in the better races).
