Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
May 29th: Newmarket
5f Maiden
  • Made a solid price at the Goffs sales in Ireland and at the top end of the trainer's normal range but not high by the owner's standards.
  • Third season sire made excellent start in 2003 with 2yos with a lot of winners and plenty of quality. 2004 was a real step back  with less runners and just 7 average to moderate winners. 2005 likely to be closer to 2004 than 2003.
  • Sire ok for 6f and winners tend to be from May onwards but with a poor debut win record.
  • He had his first winner of the season 8 days ago in a fillies' race where he had three of the better runners and he got the first & second.
  • Dam was a 5f 2yo winner in Ireland and has produced a 6f 2yo winner (STO in August after a good debut) in Ireland.
  • Trainer has had an increase in 2yos in the last two seasons. The earlier debuts in the season tend to be winners during the season at various levels. In normal seasons debuts are competent but only the best runners win FTO.
  • He has had three previous runners in 2005 two of whom have finished second on debut. The first at 8/1 (won STO) and the next as strongly backed second favourite. The third was an ok 5th in a race on firm which produced an all-age course record but failed as favourite STO.
  • Trainer uses the course for debuts once or twice each season. Does not appear to target better types at the course.
  • In summary the trainer has had three competitive smaller sprint 2yos run already in the season and they have been ready on debut. They were all cheaper buys than this one. The pedigree is fine for a 5f 2yo at this time.  Profile [68]
  • June 18th: Warwick
    5f Auction
  • 6/1 at Newmarket in a race where the favourite set a fast pace and had everything else under pressure from the start. Showed the second most pace in the field and ran slightly free early. In the front rank of the group near the rails after 1F and had moved into the lead of that group by 2L at halfway but 3L behind the leader. Made an effort inside 2F to try to chase the leader and made a little progress. Then got unbalanced and touched the rail and slightly faded late on uphill. Paid for trying to chase the superior winner. Looked the typical trainer 2yo , medium size, a little light and slightly narrow overall and a weaker neck. Fit enough to compete on debut. Estimate [65]
  • A good effort FTO in a solid race and showed the typical pace that the better trainer runners have. The second from that race has won well since and the well beaten fourth (runs here) has placed at Sandown. Trainer's 5f 2yos have shown good pace in 2005 but tended not to get home. This fast 5f sould be ok. Profile [73]
