April 30th: Goodwood
5f Maiden |
Made middling price at Doncaster St Leger sales.
Reviewed at the sales and rated only 61 partly because of a notably poor
movement behind. Slightly narrow overall and lighter behind (not untypical
for a trainer type).
Second season sire made ok start in 2004 with 13 winners but short on quality.
Ok for 5f but runners tended to be better from mid-season onwards.
Sire has had two moderate placed runs so far in 2005.
Dam is well related. She has produced average rating 7f winners so far.
Stable does not target strong debuts with 2yos and only one debut runner
placed in 2004. Gets the odd debut winner with useful+ 2yos.
There is evidence that he chooses his Goodwood runners carefully and they
will tend to be among his winners in a 2yo season. However, they still
tend to need the debuts to develop from.
In summary likely to need 6f+ and to develop from the debut. Given the
early debut at Goodwood likely to be able to develop into an average winner.
Needs to have improved from the sales to live up to that model.

Post Race |
33/1 and the trainer's first 2yo runner. Drawn on the outside and broke
slowly losing a length and then went right handed to the open side probably
losing two more lengths. Off the back of the the group behind a solid pace
by 3 lengths after 1f and 6 lengths at halfway. Plugged on in the second
half of the race. Ran slightly below expectations but the inexperience
at the start could account for that. A moderate debut but not a lost cause
and ought to develop with racing by trainer's normal methods. Estimate

6f Maiden |
Too inexperienced on debut and does not have the profile to improve enough
to be competitive here. Profile [58]

6f Auction |
16/1 at York on soft ground. Pressed the pace with a moderate type for
4 furlongs then hung left as he tired and faded notably from 2f out.
Estimate [55]
Trainer's 2yos tend to show some development on later runs and can improve
to 60s. Receives 3lb from topweight. Profile [62 + 3 =65]

June 10th: Sandown
7f Maiden |
20/1 at Goodwood in a race with a good pace where the pacemakers faded
and only one of them made the first 5. He tracked the pace in 5th and well
placed to move forward as the pace 'cracked'. Plugged on into 2nd.
Estimate [64]
Steps up to 7f. Estimate [66]
