Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
April 23rd: Haydock
5f Maiden Fillies'
  • Made high price at the Tattersalls part 1 sales.
  • reviewed at the sales and rated 73 with an above average chance of being a competitive 2yo at her level. She was a good size and with above average build. Deep in front and powerful behind although slightly weaker in front. She looked capable of being an above average winner in the season without looking obviously superior given her price.
  • By a good sire with a notably good 2yo winner to runner record. Sire get winners at range of distances but solid record at 5-6f and can also get early runners. Sire can get FTO winners. He has already had two minor 5f winners in 2005.
  • Dam was a moderate runner and has produced two 80+ rated winners although both needed 8f+ (and one 16f) to show that form.
  • Good trainer has a well above average record with 2yos. He looks to win a maiden in the first two runs and then step the better 2yos up to conditions races or higher. He assesses 2yos at home and debut runs are usually competent and places are common and the better 2yos an win on debut.
  • In summary a profile with nearly all positives and the sire can add speed to slower dam sides. Ought to be professional on debut and market should be informative in this case.  Profile [71]
  • April 23rd: Haydock
    Post Race
  • the first runner of the season for his trainer. He assesses the 2yos before they run and the SP is usually a solid indicator of what to expect. She opened at 5/1 and finished at 6/1 with nothing really supported in the group other than the odds-on favourite suggesting just an 'ok' debut was expected. In general the trainer has had his 2yos less 'wound up' on debut recently.
  • Got a slight bump at the stalls as Smart Pick went right but not a great problem and she settled in midfield around 2-3 lengths off the pacemakers at halfway. The jockey decided to switch her to the right at 2f out but this lost her ground as she had to manoeuvre behind the stalled Rack And Ruin and also Ellcon to get a clear run on the outside. She then ran on quite well and was making ground on all the other runners at the finish. If she had followed Skyelady (who she tracked in mid-race) through, rather than taking time to switch right, she might have won. Either way it would have been just an 'ok' debut and not promising she's superior nor a real 'speed' filly.   Estimate [55]
  • May 1st: Hamilton
    5f Maiden
  • Astute trainer takes the "take an average maiden winner type to Hamilton" route to try to ensure she wins. Showed enough on debut to suggest she can get to 70ish here. On the evidence of the Haydock run she should be suited by the stiff finish here so long as she doesn't get behind on the downhill stretch.
  • Runs into a stiffer test at the course than the trainer might have expected with another "Hamilton" tactic runner from M Bell and a $400k M Johnston runner.
  • Filly versus colts. Profile [68 + 5 = 73]
  • May 13th: York
    6f Fillies' Listed
  • Ran a solid race in winning at Hamilton without looking superior. Travelled well in the downhill section in behind an average pace set by a moderate 2yo. Clearly travelling best after halfway as the field started to climb the hill and switched left to centre course to get a clear run. Just lengthened and kept on without looking to be a 'speed' filly.  Estimate [65]
  • Has achieved a low level of form so far but a comfortable winner LTO and should improve further and has the sales review to support this.  Profile [79]
  • May 30th: Sandown
    5f Listed
  • 9/2 second favourite at York on softer ground.. Broke well but taken back by the jockey and held up behind and shown signs of trying to run freely through the race.
  • The race had an average pace with the first two home in the first three by the end of the first furlong. Pulled herself up to 4th 1.5L off the leaders at halfway. Field closed up to around 2F out and then quickened and left her a little outpaced. Kept on to hold position in fourth.  Estimate [78]
  • Finished behind Gamble In Gold who she meets again here and interesting to see how she would fare ridden closer to the pace. However, gives the impression she would lack the pace for a fast 5f and there are a number of front runners here. Her best chance may be to hope for a too quick pace and stay on later in the race.  Profile [81 + 2 = 83]
  • May 30th: Sandown
    Post Race
  • Medium size, very powerful behind but weaker in front. Looked to be growing and needing to tighten up still.
  • Ran above expectations but had advantage of running near the rail and a well judged ride from Fallon (who seems to get horses to produce finishes that others don't). Broke ok but settle in midfield 2L+ off the pace after 1f and 2-3 off the rail. Travelled well and made progress at halfway. Pressed on and went clear with Sunrise Safari and Northern Empire as the weaker pacesetters faded and nothing made progress in centre course.
  • Showed a faster leg action than Northern Empire and took a length from him in the last furlong.
  • Was unable to show this finish at York on softer ground where she made minor ground before halfway. Probably helped by the stiff track and the better ground. Can progress a little further. Estimate [85]
  • June 15th: York
    5f Group 2 Fillies'
  • Back on a faster track and on firm. Has shown a single strong effort in most races and given a particularly good ride by Fallon last time who timed this effort very well. On her previous run on this course she was unable to make ground in the last 2f.  Profile [87]
