Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
May 19th: Newcastle
5f Novice
  • Made a good price at the Doncaster breeze-up sales and a solid advance on his yearling price (which was similar to his foal price). Owned by Sheikh Mohammed's son who had a number of breeze up buys in 2004 targeted at 2yo racing and has had two yearling purchases run poorly for him so far in 2005 (with M Bell).
  • By a good sire with a notably good 2yo winner to runner record. Sire get winners at range of distances but solid record at 5-6f and can also get early runners. Sire can get FTO winners. He has already had three good 5f winners and a good 6f placer (last week at York) in 2005.
  • Dam was quite well related and has an ok pedigree to produce sprint 2yos.
  • Trainer does not target FTO wins and early debuts have not been competitive. His five debuts in 2005 have been similar although the delayed debut of Getbuzzin was backed in a muddling race.
  • In 2004 he had a breeze-up buy for the same owner who must count as an important one for a young trainer in only his second season in 2004. That 2yo - Rubyanne - made her debut in a Novice race on May 24th and was 5/1. She lost 8 lengths at the start but got back in touch before fading in the last furlong in a tough race. She showed only minor progress in two later runs suggesting she was more forward than his average debut.
  • In summary a good story with the sire a positive and the increase in sales price suggesting an ok physical type. Given that he was prepared for the breeze-up sales and is running for an important owner he is likely to be more forward than the trainer's standard debuts.  Profile [67 + 7 = 74]
  • May 30th: Leicester
    5f Maiden
  • 16/1 5th favourite of seven on debut at Newcastle. Broke ok but settled behind an average pace, 3L behind at halfway. Made an effort towards 2F out and reached 3rd just over a length off the lead entering the final furlong. Stalled from there and slight fade late.  Estimate [64]
  • Trainer does not normally target strong debuts and a solid run at Newcastle. Trainer's moderate early debuts have shown just small improvements from debuts so far though.  Profile 74
