Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
May 12th: York
6f Maiden
  • Made high price at Goffs sales.
  • Third season sire has made a very good start to his career with 2yos in 2003-4. Has a good winner to runner percentage and good quality.
  • Sire gets wins at all distances and an ok record at 6f.
  • Older dam has an odd record at stud. She has been a patchy producer and her best runner was her 1993 foal. Since then she has produced two low level winners and none since her 1998 foal. The sales price of this foal is hugely above those paid for those minor winners.
  • Good trainer has a well above average record with 2yos. He looks to win a maiden in the first two runs and then step the better 2yos up to conditions races or higher. He assesses 2yos at home and debut runs are usually competent and places are common and the better 2yos can win on debut.
  • Trainer has had three debut runs in 2005 with one a solid second after finding slight trouble and finishing well (won STO). The other two have drifted in the market and been comfortably beaten.
  • The trainer has not had his early debuts quite as forward as he used to have in the last two seasons and he seems to get less placed debuts. Part of the reason may be that he has made more debuts in Newmarket races in 2004. On sales price this should be an above average physical type and ok for 6f. A solid debut.  Profile [74]
  • June 4th: Haydock
    5f Maiden
  • Looked smallish, slightly leggy, heavy and compact at York. A little mentally and physically immature. A little underpowered but an ok mover. 12/1 5th favourite. Race run on soft ground and did not suit some runners. Had a quite run settling midfield in the main group behind and average pace and 2L of the leader of that group at halfway. Made a short effort 2f out as the first 3 pressed on and went away. Made a little progress to 4th but soon stalled and then tired completely  in the last furlong and faded to 9th. Estimate [31]
  • The subsequent form of the runners in the York maiden is summarised in this Webpage. A mixed performance. He drops back to 5f after fading notably over 6f. Ran better than his finishing position at York but looked just an average type. Trainer targets STO wins with these types (often in Northern maidens). Profile [70]
