May 19th: Doncaster
6f Auction |
Made a low price at the Doncaster breeze up sales and a notable decrease
from his yearling price.
By a second season sire that made a good start with 2yos notable for good
quality although an average number of winners. Ok for 6f winner.
Dam was unraced and has produced one runner from two foals. He was
placed at 6-7f at 2yo showing acceptable form.
Trainer has an average record with 2yos and has had an increased number
in the last two seasons following poor seasons after a move north to his
present base. He does not target strong debuts and most tend to rate in
the range 35-60 with later winners spread across that range. He gets occasional
debuts which tend to be earlier in the season when he runs his more natural
2yos and in weakish races.
Trainer has run two 2yos following the later start and both have been ready
and prominent on debut in moderate races.
In summary this breeze up purchase has not been in the yard very long (since
mid April) and on sales price and profile is unlikely to be a stronger
debut for the trainer. Profile [54 + 7 = 61]

May 27th: Pontefract
6f Conditions |
14/1 on debut in a moderate race overall. 19 declared and the stalls against
the far rail because of a strip of false ground on the stands' rail. Stalls
reached most of the way across the track and field split into two groups.
Tracked the leader on the far side and this group probably had a 1L lead
after one furlong and 2L after halfway. Made a effort at 2f out and went
clear on his side with the experienced favourite. Estimate [69]
Trainer has had his 2yos very fit and forward on debut so far with 2 wins
and 3 places from 6 FTO runs to date. The only STO runner showed no improvement.
The race he won was not that strong and he might have had an advantage
in racing on the far side. However, he dealt comfortably with Carmenero
who showed better form after failing on soft ground STO. Difficult to place
but probably limited improvement. Profile [78 + 2 = 80]

June 14th: York
6f Group 2 |
13/8f at Pontefract. Travelled well behind an average pace and 0.5L off
the leader at halfway. Made an effort int he straight and took 3L out of
Glenmuir quite quickly and kept on well. Trainer interviewed afterwards
and suggested he was cheap at the sales because he was the penultimate
lot and "everyone had gone home". Estimate [85]
Has looked fit and ready on both starts and probably has limted development.
