Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
April 26th: Bath
5f Auction
  • Made solid price at Tattersalls part 1 sales. However, was part of the select part of that sales and the best yearlings made over 1 Million guineas.
  • First season sire made good impression at sales and yearlings sold well. B2yoR reviewed 29 of his yearlings and they were a good group and he should have a good 2005. Sire won over 7f at 2yo but reverted to a top class sprinter at 3yo.
  • Sire has had one runner in 2005 who ran poorly on debut before showing good form STO.
  • Dam is quite well related but unraced. this is her first foal.
  • Small trainer had his first two 2yo runners in 2004. These both made late May debuts and were professional and close to their best ratings FTO.
  • In summary a solid but unproven pedigree. The sales price is high in context of the race and he is penalised 4lb. Early debut is interesting given the trainer's record in 2004. Profile [64 - 4 = 60]
  • May 12th: Salisbury
    5f Maiden
  • Drifted notably to 66/1 on debut at Bath but put up a typically forward showing in line with the trainer's record. Drawn 1 on softer going where the field went to the stands' side. Ran the centre of the course and showed good progress from halfway and a good finish to third (giving weight to the first two).  Estimate [64]
  • The time for his debut race was slow but he put up a very likeable performance and the subsequent wins of the two horses that finished in front of him make that look very solid form. His trainer's runners showed limited improvement from debut in 2004 but he should show a better rating her and probably close to his peak.  Profile [74]
  • May 30th: Sandown
    5f Listed
  • 5/1 2nd favourite at Salisbury in a race run on firm ground with a strong tailwind which produced an all aged course record. Drawn next to the rail and made a good break to just lead at the end of the first furlong. He picked the pace up from there and set a quick pace which had the weaker runners and those unsuited to the ground immediately under pressure. Led by a length from the smaller Bel Cantor at halfway. Started to stall and hang left towards the last furlong but kept on for a solid second but comfortably beaten by the winner. Estimate [79]
  • Set strong pace at Salisbury and slightly paid for that in the last furlong. However, looked second best to Ajigolo who he meets again here. Trainer's runners usually well prepared for their early runs and limited improvement from there.  Profile [82]
  • May 30th: Sandown
    Post Race
  • Paddock rating 79. An interesting type and different from the more classic sprinter types in the field (Memphis Man for example). Shows more speed than his setup and build would suggest but probably has limitations in being able to compete at higher class.
  • Medium size and solid build in front but slightly lengthy and more lightly built behind. Slightly narrower than the average in the group. The fittest in the field and with less scope to develop than the more heavily built types.
  • Well drawn one off the rail and broke well and just led after 1 furlong. Set a solid pace to halfway and then went clear from 2f out with Northern Empire & Salut D'Amour as the weaker runner near the rail faded (the wider drawn runners made no progress). Showed more pace than the other two an went a length clear into t he final furlong and looked the likely winner. Faded in the last half furlong and picked up by the other two.
  • Had advantages here of track position, fitness and best place to start the sprint for home. But shows notable speed and can rate high 80s. Estimate [84]
  • June 16th: York
    5f Group 3
  • Form of the Sandown race loks solid with the second a clear winner of a moderate maiden since and the winner finishing 2nd in the Queen Mary. Ought to be suited to the faster, flat track although the ground is unlikely to be quick.  Profile [88]
