Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
March 26th: Entered for -
Kempton 5f
Maiden - (D2)
  • Expensive buy for DSL. Already gelded.
  • By (US) based sire who has a few British representatives each season. The sire has not had a 5f winner nor a winner before August in the period 2002-4 from 10 runners. He has got a 6f winner with help from the dam.
  • Dam has (US) pedigree with mixed features, not an obvious 'speed' producer.
  • Trainer has not targeted FTO wins in recent seasons and early debuts can often be inexperienced. He had a runner finish last in this race in 2004 for example. Only the very best runners compete well on debut.
  • In summary a mixed story. The sales price and (US) pedigree suggest an average to useful physical type but not suited to 5f early. The trainer's earliest debuts in 2003-4 have been minor winners at best during the season but with cheaper buys. In either case it would be surprising if he was competent enough, or superior enough, to compete well on debut.  Profile [53]
  • March 26th:
    POST RACE
  • The pre-race profile of 53 was considered the best he could perform to if fit and showing acceptable professionalism. If you look at the picture of him you will see that he is heavily built and just average fitness, he didn't look ready to 'carry his weight' today.
  • He received a paadock rating of 74? because he has a very strong body and can develop but not quite carrying his weight yet. Need to see how he develops.
  • He added a mentally inexperienced run to compound this and produce a low rating.
  • It is interesting to think about what the trainer is trying to achieve with the regular very poor debut runs he has early in each season. This one wasn't ready to compete today (despite the 13/2 SP) and you could speculate he was here for other reasons = e.g. perhaps he's a handful at home, diffiult to get fit, etc.
  • It will be interesting to see how quickly he runs again. Estimate [30]
  • March 31st : Declared
    5f Conditions - Brocklesby
    at Doncaster
  • Surprisingly, runs only 5 days after his very inexperienced debut run.
  • Trainer's 2yos have a poor record running STO off such short breaks and Paddock Review did not suggest he was going to snap into shape quickly.
  • In summary slightly puzzling why he runs here. The trainer knows what's required to win the race having won it with a debut runner back in the early 90s but he has had a different approach for a long time. It would mean he was very useful if he could place here and seems most unlikely. Has he really shown them enough at home to suggest he's worth running here, now? Profile [56]
  • March 31st: Doncaster
    5f Conditions
  • Ran only 5 days after debut and slightly baffling what the plan is with him. Was giving a strong, attacking ride and led the stands' side group for as long as he could before fading to the expected rating level. Previous comments still apply and presume he will now be given a break to develop. Estimate [53]
  • April 26th: Warwick
    5f Seller
  • Drops to a seller after an early debut in a race that his trainer often uses for claimer level types. Sales price and build make the point of how disappointing he must be. On the form he showed in the Brocklesby he should be competitive in this type of race even if he doesn't improve.  Profile [52]
