May 5th: Chepstow
5f Maiden |
Made a lowish price at the Tattersalls part 2 sales.
Good sire has average record with 2yos and can get 5f winners including
in early season. Has moderate record with FTO winners and only the useful+
2yos Attraction and Imperial Sound have won on debut for him in 2003-4.
Dam has quite a stout pedigree and was expensive at the sales. She showed
moderate from and finally won over 11f at 4yo.
Trainer has had an increase in 2yos in the last two seasons. The earlier
debuts in the season tend to be winners during the season at various levels.
In normal seasons debuts are competent but only the best runners win FTO.
He has had one previous runner in 2005 who was a good second FTO at 8/1.
In summary a mixed pedigree and likely to need the debut to develop from.

May 23rd: Windsor
5f Novice |
Notably backed on debut (7/2 to 9/4 as second favourite) and unusual for
a stable runner. The jockey had driven from Folkestone for this first race.
Look leggy and above average fitness. Sweating on the neck. Ran slightly
freely and led on the rail. A neck lead at halfway and made an effort 2F
out and went a length clear and looked the winner. Slight fade late and
caught by Ocean Pride who had not been able to match his earlier effort.
Slightly wound up before the race and ran a little too freely but showed
solid pace. Estimate [65]
Showed a typical trainer debut in 2005. Can improve if he can settle better
but trainer's other runners have not progressed notably STO. Profile

6f Novice |
6/4f at Windsor and a professional performance. Tracked the leader by a
length at halfway, made an effort 1.5f out and led just inside the funal
furlong and going a length clear. Estimate [70]
Steps up to 6f. Trainer won the race in 2002 for the same owners with the
later Group 1 winner Tout Seul who was on STO after winning on debut at
the course. Estimate [76]
