April 29th: Musselburgh
5f Maiden |
Owner bred by the Dixons.
By repatriated sire who has a moderate record with 2yos overall but ok
for 5-6f minor winners. He has made a solid start to 2005 with three
5f winners already with one winning a minor Conditions race.
Dam was a moderate level 5f winner and a cheap sales buy. She has produced
two poor runners.
Trainer has moderate record with 2yos and the low quality makes it difficult
to assess his approach. However he tends to have his earliest runners ready
to run close to their best on debut. They can then run to lower ratings
in their next runs before finding their form again over a long season of
many runs.
Trainer has had one poor debut so far in 2005.
In summary a moderate pedigree and on profile a 50s rated sprint 2yo. Likely
to be a little short of that. Profile [49]

April 29th: Musselburgh
Post Race |
Drifted from 12/1 to 25/1 for a trainer who has his 2yos close to their
best on debut. The strong odds-on M Johnston runner failed in the race.
Performed slightly above expectations in moving forward to track the pace
in third at halfway and plugging on as the race quickened and only losing
ground to the winner. A moderate level of form and likely to be limited
improvement but looks better than the dam's previous foals on this. Estimate

May 7th: Beverley
5f Maiden |
Unlikely to improve greatly from debut. Ok draw in 8 of 14 in this mixed
group and competitive for a place in a moderate edition of the race.

May 24th: Lingfield
5f Aw Maiden - DIV II |
9/2 at Beverley in a race with a too fast pace and three of the four places
filled by closers. Tracked the pace by just over a length at halfway. Driven
2F out and faded to midfield in the last furlong. Estimate [33]
Trainer's runners tend to show close to best form on debut and variable
form afterwards. Profile [55]

June 7th: Chester
5f Maiden Post Race |
5/1 at Lingfield and ran a similar race to Beverley. Pressed the pace by
a neck at halfway and but lacking a little pace on the turn to the straight
and then a fade in the last furlong to 4th. Estimate [47]
Drifted to 11/1 today but well drawn. Broke well and set the pace on the
rail. Allowed to go his own pace rather than chasing it. Kept on
well in the short straight rather than fading. Estimate [68]
Worth noting that this win and performance has similaraties to that of
Sir Ernest in 2003. He also won 4TO on June 6th a sharp turning track at
Catterick (33/1) after having previously run at Lingfield AW and Beverley.
He had also looked a short runner in those previous runs and showed a similar
level of form and a poor run before looking to improve 4TO (with a 6 week
break in his case).
The trainer tends to have runners which show a solid level of form within
their ability on debut. They then usually run quite regularly and most
show little improvement. Occasionally he has one that show notable improvement
after being 'stuck' at a particular rating level. For example No Time in
2002, Sir Ernest & Lizhar in 2003 and probably this one.
The previous runners have tended to show the higher level of form for 2-3
runs before regressing down to the previous level. Both No Time & Sir
Ernest (Windsor Castle) ran in Group races after showing improved form.

June 16th: York
5f Group 3 |
The similarities continues and he runs in the Norfolk rather than the Windsor
Castle. Trainer regularly runs outclassed types in better races and the
owner has done the same already this weak in the Queen Mary. Profile
