5f Maiden |
Made a good price at the Goffs sales in Ireland.
Good sire has variable record with 2yos and gets winners at all distances.
Can get 5f winners although better record at 6f.
The dam needed 8f+ to show average form in winning over 10-12f. She has
produced one previous 2yo who won on a late season debut over 7f.
Trainer used to identify his early season 2yos and often run up winning
sequences with them including on debut. Possibly because of lack of quality
that hasn't been the case 2002-4. However the earliest debut runners in
each season have usually been competitive at low level but needing a debut
run to show peak form STO after a short break.
He has had 6 debuts in 2005 and the five that ran at 'lesser' courses have
been very poor. The one solid debut was a second place in a maiden at this
course. He typically runs his better types at the major courses on debut
(here, York, etc.). The better types can place in these tougher maidens
but rarely win nowadays.
In summary a pedigree and sales price which ought to produce at least an
average maiden winner and prospects for better. Given the debut at this
course he ought to be a better type but would probably place at best if
useful given the trainer's current methods. Profile [68]

6f Maiden |
A non-runner at Newmarket (the trainer has already had three non-runners)
and runs at another 'preferred' course for the trainer. His debut runner
in the 5f Novice yesterday (in tacky ground which seemed to be affecting
results) looked inexperienced and was outpaced. That one had also previously
been a non-runner.
Now makes his debut at 6f and previous profile allowed to stand.

May 19th: Goodwood
6f Maiden |
9/1 to 17/2 in market where a number of runners were backed. Looked to
need the run with a slight belly and not being particularly active. Race
run on soft and raced centre track. Broke well and feinted to follow Desert
Realm towards the far side before switching right to join the main group.
Settled tracking the leader of the main group in fourth overall. 1L behind
the pace at halfway but slightly outpaced as the race quickened and then
faded before being eased before the last furlong. Estimate [0]
An untypically poor debut but runs only a week later and presumably nothing
physically wrong at York and probably not handle the ground. However, still
needs to prove his ability and looked to need to tighten up on his first
run and that was only a week ago. Profile [66]
