Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
March 31st : Declared
5f Conditions - Brocklesby
at Doncaster
  • Average price for DSL sales.
  • By repatriated sire who has a moderate record with 2yos overall but ok for 5-6f minor winners.
  • Sire can get early runners but poor record with debut runs and runners tend to develop after early season.
  • Trainer did not used to have many 2yo runners but has increased to 2 in 2003 and 6 in 2004 with a number of relatively expensive breeze-up purchases.
  • Dam unraced and moderate to average pedigree and had produced a useful 2yo to the sire Pivotal (although given his record you would be inclined to give the sire most of the credit).
  • In 2004 the debuts tended to be 10lb+ below best rating and not unusual to target conditions races. The earliest debuts for the trainer were the better types who won or competed well after debut.
  • In summary a trainer developing his approach with these more expensive 2yos. Pedigree suggests will need to develop and not likely to be competitive on debut. Profile [51]
  • March 31st: Doncaster
    Post Race
  • Ran to expectations in 7th for a trainer who had his 2004 debut runners 10lbs or more below their final rating. Should be able to progress to 65+ rating, at least, from this.  Estimate [51]
  • April 9th: Declared for
    Newcastle 5f Novice
  • Runs 9 days after debut and trainer has acceptable record off such short breaks (although with limited evidence).
  • Trainer tend to run his 2yos in Novice and Conditions races (rather than maidens). They tend to show 10lbs+ improvement from debut to STO runs.
  • Both his wins with 2yos in 2004 were at Newcastle (one STO and one 3TO) with apprentices riding (as one does here).
  • In summary an acceptable debut by trainer standards and should improve from that. Profile [63]
  • May 11th: Newcastle
    6f Maiden
  • 6/1 3rd favourite with a 3lb apprentice. Outpaced in a race with a solid pace for soft ground and never got into the race.  Estimate [51]
  • His debut run in the Brocklesby looks less good given the performances of the 3rd-9th since with only one win between them in a seller. Steps to 6f after a poor run in a moderate race on soft. Ought to get back to original rating.  Profile [54]
  • May 13th: Hamilton
    6f Maiden
  • 11/1 at Necastle two days ago with the usual 3lb apprentice. Made a slow start and never got into that race and a poor finish. Runs here only two days later with cheekpieces.  Profile [48]
