SUMMARY OF APPROACH TO 2YO RACING :-

Small to medium sized stable. Does not target 2yo racing and runs between one to five 2yos each season. He has only had one 2yo win in the period 1999-2004 from 22 runners.
The 2yos are mostly bought at the sales (both yearling and breeze-up sales) for a wide range of prices between 5k to 52k gns. The more expensive buys usually have more stout elements in their pedigrees while the cheaper buys tend to have more obvious '2yo' pedigrees.
The 2yos usually make later season debut from August onwards and will normally run 2-3 times. These runners will often continue to run on the AW after the close of the turf season in November. In 2003 he had two runners who made unusual early debuts in finishing in the last two places in the same Conditions race in May. Neither of these 2yos ran again until September (were the early debuts a Royal Ascot tryout?).
In line with the later season debuts the 2yos are normally competent on FTO although rarely place. They tend to show 5-12lb improvement STO depending upon their ability with the moderate types at the lowest end of the range.
FTO SPs are normally 25/1 or higher and show no correlation with either debut performance nor overall ability.
