April 23rd: Ripon
5f Auction Fillies' |
Made low price at the Goffs sales.
Third season sire made excellent start in 2003 with 2yos with a lot of
winners and plenty of quality. 2004 was a real step back with less
runners and just 7 average to moderate winners. 2005 likely to be closer
to 2004 than 2003.
Sire ok for 5f but winners tend to be from May onwards and has a poor debut
win record.
Dam won over sprint distances in Italy and has produced a poor 2yo with
her only foal that sold much better than this one.
Trainer's stable in decline and 2004 his poorest 2yo season. Debut runs
are normally poor and a forward showing is a sure sign of a runner with
natural ability (and probable future winner).
Trainer's early season debuts can be very inexperienced. He has had four
poor 2yo debuts in 2005.
In summary a moderate story and likely to be a limited type. The trainer
can 'throw in' the odd debut winner with a better type but hard to find
the positives here. Receives 4lb fro the topweight fillies. Profile

May 4th: Chester
5f Maiden |
7/1 in a moderate race on soft ground an finished a well beaten third and
running to expectations. Profile [36]
Made a poor debut in soft ground but not disastrous by trainer standards.
Reasonably drawn here in 8 of 16 and likely to show reasonable improvement

June 1st: Beverley
5f Listed Fillies' |
16/1 at Chester and ran a reasonable 5th. Race featured a strong
and contested pace which had the field spread over 10L+ after a furlong.
Showed some pace to settle 5th and well off the duelling leaders. Still
in 5th but 6L off the leaders at halfway. Kept on as two of the leaders
faded to remain fifth but passed by Scooby Dude (winner since) & Silver
Crest (unplaced in a Listed race since). Estimate [49]
Her debut third on soft ground looks better in retrospect and her fifth
last time was slightly better than rated given that she tried to follow
a tough pace. The trainer has tended to run his best filly in the race
however that isn't a tough standard in 2005 when he has just one seller
win. Well drawn in 11 but will need to show a little more pace than she
has to get a good position with a number of pacemakers drawn lower.
