April 2nd: Declared
for Doncaster Auction |
Sold for acceptable price at DSL sales. The most expensive colt in the
field but gives only 1lb to the cheaper colts.
By a first season sire that showed best form at 7f as a 2yo winning a Group
1 race as the stable's third string. The runners in this race will be his
first.
Sire made an average to good impression at the sales. B2yoR reviewed 12
of his yearlings and most were rated at an acceptable level for this kind
of race and sold for similar prices to this one.
Dam was an above average 5f 2yo who made her debut on April 23rd and showed
her peak form by July.
Trainer does not target FTO wins and runners are usually well below final
rating on debut. He had the winner of this race on debut in 2004 but that
runner was around 20lb below his best and won because he was so superior
to the majority of the field.
Trainer has had two runners so far in 2005 with one placed at 11/2 and
another unplaced at 7/2f after setting too fast a pace in sticky ground.
In summary an acceptable pedigree for this type of race but would need
to be useful+ to win on debut given the trainer methods. A rating above
50 would be expected if this one were to be a later winner. Profile

Opened 9/2 and finished as 7/2 favourite. Ran close to the pace for 3f+
before a poor fade to finish 8th. Trainer's later winners usually rate
50+ on debut so a slight worry with this one. The trainer has not had a
strong debut from a 'natural' yet (as he had in 2003-4) and possible he
doesn't have one. However his earliest debut runs can be mixed so he could
be able to develop from this and possibly he is slightly behind schedule
with his 2yos this year. Estimate [42]

Disappointed as favourite on debut and finished behind Looking North who
is also in the race and has placed in a claimer since. He was one of the
trainer's first 4 debut runners in early season and as a group they were
slightly disappointing. However, the three fillies all won minor races
STO and provide reasonable expectation that he will be better here. Poorly
drawn in 12 of 16. Profile [62]

Made a poor debut as favourite in an early season race where he faded badly
after showing some pace. 25/1 here and that was a bad sign. Ran a similar
race by being 7th and within 7 lengths of the too strong pace to halfway
but fading from there and completely folded. Moderate types who were in
similar positions at halfway kept on much better. Looks to be a rather
disappointing type. Estimate [12]

Has got outpaced and faded notably in two 5f races and stays at 5f. Unlikely
to show notable improvement. Profile [42]
