May 2nd: Warwick
5f Maiden Fillies' |
Bred by the Queen.
By sire with a very good and consistent record with 2yos. Gets early, precocious
sprinters and good record with debut runners. Solid percentage of useful+
2yos. Notable for runners having better record on GF+ going.
Sire had his first winner of the season this week on firmer ground at Redcar.
The dam showed average placed form over 7f at 2yo and useful form at 3yo.
She has produce one poor filly who was sold on after three poor 2yo runs.
Major trainer does not target FTO wins and they tend to come along with
better types. He has made a slow start to 2005 but has now had four winners
and the recent debuts have been solid while lacking the final 'edge'. He
has had one FTO winner in a weak Windsor race.
The trainer does not target strong debuts for this owner.
Trainer has used this race to introduce a wide variety of fillies from
a Group 3 winner to moderate types.
In summary the sire is a plus and the early debut over 5f is a good sign.
Likely to be well below her best and not likely to be given a hard race.

June 1st: Nottingham
5f Maiden Fillies' |
Steady around 8/1 at Warwick. Ok size but slightly short. Broke slowly
and lost a length and settled at back of the group after a furlong. Slightly
outpaced as the pace stepped up a little to halfway. More than 4L off the
moderate leader at halfway. No progress in the straight and whipped before
the final furlong and no response. Estimate [32]
Given a break after a quiet and uncompetitive debut and no obvious promise
on softer ground. Sire has better record on firmer going.
Trainer has used the race for a moderate filly for the same owner in 2005.
Runners that have shown good (14lb) improvement STO have normally shown
more ability on debut. However, she starts from a lower base and a quiet
introduction. Profile [58]

June 13th: Windsor
5f Maiden |
8/1 at Nottingham in a race with a good pace on race softened ground. Broke
well and pressed the pace in the middle of a line of three to past halfway.
Oupaced 2f out as the better types made their efforts and faded from before
1f out. Estimate [40]
Moderate form and unlikely to show notable improvement. Trainer had the
runner up in the race in 2004 with a colt for the same owner.
