April 6th: Declared for
Nottingham 5f Maiden |
Sold for solid price at Goffs Orby sales.
Third season sire has made a very good start to his career with 2yos in
2003-4. Has a good winner to runner percentage and good quality.
Sire gets wins at all distances including 5f. Has had only one 5f winner
before May but that was with a runner with this trainer. Debut win have
tended to come after March.
Trainer likes the sire and has had six useful 2yos by him (Cedarberg, Mac
Love, Nights Cross, Millbag, Mokabra & Capable Guest). Each of these
runners were beaten on debut and only Mokabra & Millbag (in later season)
won STO.
Dam's pedigree ok for 6f+ but has moderate record with previous foals so
far.
Trainer does not target FTO wins and those that win on debut are normally
his best runners (or targeted debuts for specific owners).
Trainer has had seven debut runs in 2005 with a mix of competent and inexperienced.
He has had two debut wins (at 85/40f & 4/1), one by a probable 'natural'
in a weak race and one by a better type for one of his 'specific' owners
(Jaber Abdullah).
The other four debuts in non sellers have been three unplaced who never
looked likely to win their races (at 5/2, 4/1 and 11/2), plus a more typical
placed debut for an important owner.
The trainer had Valiant Romeo placed 3rd in 2002 (beaten 9 lengths after
showing inexperience) & Mac Love second in 2004.
In summary a solid pedigree by a good sire that the trainer likes. Probably
a good sign that he runs early. However the trainer has not had a debut
winner with 6 useful+ sons of the sire so possibly he runs them slightly
early. The trainer's form with debut runners has been more mixed than usual
in 2005 so far but would expect it to settle down to the solid debuts,
without quite being able to win unless superior soon. Either way, a runner
to follow the development of. Profile [65]

Post Race |
Steady at 7/2 second favourite. He led early at a good pace to around halfway
but soon came under strong pressure and faded more than you would have
liked in a slow race. The trainer's debuts have been more variable in 2005
and the softer going than in previous years may be having some effect.
Worth tracking given the original profile but need to excuse the fade at
the end of this run to have a fully positive view of his prospects of getting
to 80+ for example. Estimate [41]

May 23rd: Leicester
6f Maiden |
Trainer is notable for trying some 2yos over 5f which cant handle it. This
is one of two (Jaassey is the other) which he runs in 6f maidens today's
after breaks from poor early season 5f runs. Difficult to place but solid
improvement expected. Profile [66]

June 4th: Chepstow
6f Auction |
20/1 at Leicester, behind early and no progress in a moderate to average
race. Profile [31]
Poor run at Leicester and the SP was a bad sign for a trainer who has a
good understanding of the 2yos ability. On paddock review he was slightly
small and just medium build, lengthy and lighter behind. A ready type.
He ought to be better than he's shown and probably being developed for
nurseries. Gives weight all around in this Auction race. Profile
