6f Maiden |
Made a high price at the Goffs sales and a small increase on the foal price.
First season sire made 6f May debut at 2yo and superior 6-7f runner. Made
solid impression at the sales and yearlings sold well. B2yoR rated 32 of
his yearlings and they were a solid group if lacking real stars.
Sire has had 15 runners already with three winners, two on debut. 5 other
runners have placed on debut at moderate levels. One of his winners won
a new Listed race at York last week and another ran well in one yesterday.
Dam is well related to high class 2yo winners and had a speed pedigree.
She was a moderate sprinter herself.
Major trainer does not target debut wins and those he gets are usually
with superior types and more likely later in the season. However, his first
2yo winner of the season has won in the last 2 seasons although the other
earlier debuts have been more typical.
This is the fifth 2yo runner of the season following a debut 4th (backed
to 4/1) at York last week; a winner at Newbury (backed to 5/1) and two
unplaced debuts in the last week.
The trainer runs two in the race with R Havlin on this one and J Fortune
(who rode his debut winner at Newbury) on Racer Forever.
The trainer has run two useful+ types in the race previous with the better
of the two placing on debut at 13/2.
In summary a solid pedigree that ought to produce an average sprinter at
least. Trainer's debut runners can be variable and only the best seem to
win in early season. The market should be indicative of which of the two
is preferred. Profile [69]

5/1 from 6/1 at Newmarket in an average maiden. Race run in a notably slow
time and tuned in barely a 1.5f 'sprint'. He sat last off the modest early
pace and 3L behind at halfway. Pressed to quicken in the last 2f but looked
to lack pace and lost ground to the first three. Jockey quiet in the last
half furlong after the lack of response. Estimate [47]
A typically quiet debut for the trainer in 2005 where only the useful To
Sender has made the first three from 8 debuts. However, two of those quiet,
unplaced, previous debuts have won average races STO. We learnt little
about him at Newmarket other than he wasn't ready and/or able to deal with
a sprint finish. Profile [69]
