March 31st : Declared
5f Conditions - Brocklesby
at Doncaster |
Made poor price at Tattersalls Ireland sales.
Sire now in his fourth season and made good impression in 2002 with his
first 2yos. After two ok seasons with less runners this season should see
him with more runners in recognition of the good start in 2002. He can
get early 5f types.
Dam was unraced and has moderate record at stud.
Small trainer has run a few cheap 2yos in 2002-4 and they usually debut
early and run often. They tend to be competent on debut and peak STO. However,
he has not had a 2yo winner.
Trainer had the 6th at 50/1 in 2004 with a small, ready filly who didn't
really progress and was the only runner in the first seven who didn't win
in the season. This suggests she was close to ready on debut and finished
just behind better types who could develop further.
Trainer has two entered and this a possible first string with L Dettori
booked. But this jockey riding should not a taken as a certain sign that
this one is useful. With his m normal stables not competing in this type
of race he will take what rides he can.
In summary an indifferent pedigree but ok for minor 2yo but sales price
suggests a limited type. Likely to be close to his best on debut. Profile

Finished in midfield in the Brocklesby and the strength of that race is
not looking good with the 5th-8th all beaten in weaker races next time.
Trainer ran his runner in the Brocklesby in 2004 at this meeting and she
ran to a similar level. Profile [54]

Represented a trainer who gets his 2yos ready early and they peak STO so
this was probably his level but still ran well above expectations. His
cheap sales price and poor run in the Brocklesby led to a low profile rating
but he is clearly better than that. In the Brocklesby he ran in the far
side group which may have been a slight disadvantage and faded in the last
two furlongs after getting 'in touch' on that side from a slow break.
He broke slightly awkwardly here but still best and set the pace with Puskas
for 3f before being outpaced by him inside 2f out but keeping on solidly.
Looked a similar size to Puskas but narrower and leggier although mature.
The trainer has failed to convert promise from his early runners into wins
but this one has shown enough ability to win a maiden with a 70+ performance
. [L Dettori rode again here which may have been significant - could he
have ridden Cover Drive if he'd really wanted to?] Estimate [72]
