May 28th: Lingfield
6f Maiden Fillies' |
Owner bred by Darley and runs for Godolphin.
US based sire has a solid record with his British raced 2yos. He gets winners
at all distances from May onwards and a good debut win record.
Dam was a useful sprint 2yo and developed further at 3yo. She has produced
three similarly useful 2yos over 6f. The first two benefited from trainer
D. Loder preparations to rate highly at 2yo. The first foal Silver Seeker
was disappointing and a low grade handicapper now. D. Loder memorably said
about Pearl Grey after she has finished placed in the Cherry Hinton that
"if you had told me 6 weeks ago she would have won a Listed race and been
placed in a Group 2 I would have laughed my head off". Other than Attraction
it wasn't much of a 'Group 2' race. The latest 2yo was by Dubai Millennium
and S. Suroor tried hard to get the best rating but he kept finishing second.
Third 2yo runner of the season for a good trainer with the best raw material
and resources available. Before 2004 he used to train only the occasional
2yo as Darley/Godolphin used D Loder for their 2yo training. In 2004 they
took the 2yo training 'in house' and Mr Suroor jumped into second place
in the individual 2yos run table with 91. Of those 48 won and the strike
rate was around 30%.
He targets maiden wins in the first two runs and the better 2yos step up
to high class races.
His first runners in 2004 were at a similar time of the season from the
York Dante meeting onward. He had 4 debuts in May and the two York debut
were beaten and won STO before the end of May. The other two debuts included
one FTO winner and one very disappointing filly who was an expensive US
2yo buy. Two of the four ran at Royal Ascot but were useful types rather
than the stable 'stars'.
The first runner for the stable looked an average filly at best and she
finished well beaten after losing ground at the start. The second won an
average Newmarket maiden in a very slow time after being allowed to set
an easy paced lead. The third intended runner was withdrawn after panicking
in the stalls earlier today.
Trainer won this race in 2004 with a filly on debut who was below Group
class but represented the stable at Royal Ascot and in the Cherry Hinton.
In summary has the profile of a 90ish rated 2yo and ok for precociousness.
How forward the stable has the 2yos is not proven yet but she ought to
be competent. Profile [70]

June 24th: Newmarket
6f Maiden Fillies' |
7/2 at Lingfield and a typical, uncompetitive performance by the trainer's
earliest debuts this year. Looked just a smallish and average type. Drawn
wide and broke left handed and got behind. More than 4L off the leader
at halfway and just limited progress in the last 1f. Showed a little ability
but needed the debut for mental development. Estimate [51]
Trainer is well behind schedule with 2yos and this one has been given a
longish break after being one of a number of uncompetitive early debuts.
The form of the race was just moderate to average. Should be more competent
here but looked average type. Profile [70]

July 8th: Lingfield AW

4/1 at Newmarket in a moderate race overall. Settled in 6th place off an
average pace (at best) and around 3L off the uncontested lead (pacemaker
won) at halfway. Progressed to 2nd around a length off the leader 1f out
but comfortably held. Estimate [69]
More professional LTO but confirmed view overall that she's an average
type. Only one runner from the Newmarket race and ran a moderate volunteer
fourth. Ok draw in 6/12 but needs to be ridden more prominently. Can improve
a little further. Profile [72]
