5f Maiden |
Made a solid price at the Goffs sales.
Third season sire had good start with 2yos in 2003 but less good in 2004.
He gets 5f winners but they tend to be from May onwards.
Dam was a middle distance maiden in France but has produced a good 6f 2yo
that sold for similar money to this one.
Trainer has made a slow start to the season and had no 2yo winner. He is
getting started again after a break between early April and mid May. Does
not target strong debuts and only 1 FTO win from 41 runs in 2003-4.

June 1st: Beverley
5f Listed Fillies' |
25/1 at Carlisle at best draw in next to the far rail. Made a slightly
slow break and lost a length but quickly recovered. Railed well as most
of the large field drifted wide on the bends and she saved ground. By railing
she found herself in the lead just with her natural cruising speed. Showed
nice pace to be 2L clear at halfway. Fading in the last furlong and just
held on from the favourite. Estimate [64]
Trainer gets rare FTO winners but has had a break after early debuts and
possible that some of his runners are a little more ready. However, a good
& professional debut and not unusual for his debut runners to lack
some fitness to finish the race off. STO runners tend to show 5-10lb improvement.
Trainer has not had a runner in the race in the last three years. Has a
poor draw in 3 and surrounded by other front runners so will struggle to
get a good position. Profile [73 + 3 = 76]

5f Group 2 Fillies' |
16/1 from 20/1 at Beverley in a race on rain softened ground. Looked slightly
mentally immature but very ready and neat and powerful behind. Ran a chaotic
race but too speedy and good for the others and won comfotably anyway.
Lost a length with a slow break but picked up quickly and soon recovered.
Field split into two groups with Give Me The Night taken to the stands'
rail and setting a good pace there and probably leading overall from the
far side. She sat third in the stands' side group to halfway (where the
right hand bend really kicks in) but hung right as she made an effort and
crossed over to lead the far side group. Went cleart of that group and
kept on well although a slight fade at the end. Estimate [84]
Trainer said afterwards that she had 'blown up' at Carlisle after being
3L clear and would have won comforably otherwise. He noted his whole string
had been behind and that although they had not fully tried her they knew
she was above average before the race.
Has looked an absolute natural 5f filly and her basic pace has meant she
hasn't been tested yet. In theory this flat 5f will suit her better than
the stiff tracks she has run on. She appears to have a high cruising speed
and can improve for being able to control her balance better. Does not
appeal as a long term prospect but a strong candidate as a natural, fast
filly. Profile [91]
