March 28th:
Entered for
Redcar 5f Maiden |
Retained at sales for reasonable price at TO2.
Second season sire made good start in 2004 with a good number of winners
and some with quality. The better types developed through season. Got winners
between 5-7f but better record at 6f and only one winner before May 21.
Dam had acceptable pedigree but a poor runner in only 2 runs. Has produced
one runner that made debut in a seller in March, ran 17 times and won four
races and even had a go in a Group 3. The other three foals didn't
race at 2yo so probably a good sign that this one is entered in March.
Trainer does not target 2yo racing. Debuts, especially early season tend
to be poor. Has had a minor winner in both 2003-4 and both made poor northern
debuts (Musselburgh & Thirsk) before developing to win 4-5TO. Both
were his first runner of the season.
In summary an acceptable pedigree and ok sales price in context of race.
Trainer does not have runners competitive on debut (unless superior like
Parisien Elegance in 2001). Has had minor winner in last two season with
his earliest debut runner (both cost less at sales than this one). So,
not one for 'today' on profile but one to track for future. Profile

April 16th: Nottingham
5f Maiden |
Was not declared for the Redcar race. Trainer has had one moderate debut
runner so far in 2005. Comments from Redcar still valid. Profile [40]

April 30th: Goodwood
5f Maiden |
Ran a very poor debut at Nottingham at 14/1. In a muddling race he was
more than 5 lengths behind a moderate pace at halfway and faded badly.
Finished behind a moderate group. Estimate [2]
The trainer has had a STO winner since that debut with a runner which showed
better form on debut. This one likely to show better form here but from
too low a base to expect to be competitive. Profile [42]

May 22nd: Brighton
6f Novice |
40/1 at Goodwood and pressed the pacemakers on the rail until past halfway
where he was a length off the leaders. Paid for trying to go the pace and
faded to finish adrift of the better types. Estimate [0]
Dropped to a Wolverhampton 5.1f AW claimer on May 9th carrying topweight
in a poor to moderate field. 14/1 and again showed early pace to gain the
rail and set the pace. Led by a length at halfway on the bend and plugged
on in the straight for a clear win. Both 2yo races on the card were won
by front runners who hugged the rails and never saw another horse. Those
runners that pulled wide into the straight made no ground. The race was
run 1.4 seconds slower than the fillies race (he carried 8lb more than
that winner). Estimate [52]
Steps up to 6f on a fastish course. Has pressed the pace twice and there
are a number of other front runners in the field. Penalised 4lb for his
claimer win but receives 2lb from the topweight. Profile [55 +

June 10th: Catterick
5f Novice |
20/1 and front ran at Brighton and set a good pace. Headed 2f out and faded
from there to fourth. Appeared to have improved there and initially rated
65. The subsequent performances suggest it was around 8lb overrated.
Estimate [58]
June 1st : 33/1 in a 6f Novice at Yarmouth ridden by a 5lb apprentice.
Held up behind a good pace, driven halfway but no progress and faded.
Estimate [33]
Drops back to 5f on a faster track after being held up last time over 6f.
Has shown best form when setting his own pace but without going too fast.
This race has two other prospective front runners. Profile [58
